He played a total of 3 games as PG that season. 3. Staring on 4/27. The last game he played at all that year was 5/5. Two of the games between 4/27-5/5 Avery Bradley was the PG

Those other lead players may turn it over a lot, but they can also give you more assists, or efficient scoring, or great defense. Thing with KPJ is, he isn’t particularly good at anything else, except maybe catch and shoot. That’s why he should play off the ball more.

All I know is with him at PG, our record is nothing to brag about.

    Current Efficiency (PER) Rankings
    - Both are listed on ESPN as SG.
    - Included where they'd be on PG list.

    KPJ 14.91
    SG PG
    21 29

    JG 14.78
    SG PG
    23 33

I want the team to grow for the future. They need a vet PG. They NEED someone smart enough and mature enough to make the right plays. To be a good leader. Not just try to lead. A lot of people can try to lead unsuccessfully, but first you have to lead by example and unfortunately KPJ fails at that miserably all too often.

We've got 6 YOUNG guys out there that desperately need a smart, disciplined leader ON the court making the right decisions so that these young guys can learn and grow their skills the right way.

I said many times in the offseason that they should extend KPJ and give him a shot, but if he started to show that he was hurting the growth of the kids in any way whatsoever he would need to be gone. I'm not necessarily saying get rid of him, but he should not be the guy out there TRYING to lead these guys when he is not capable of doing it. At least not now. This time is way too critical for the others. Continuing with this "experiment" is a detriment to everyone else. Has to stop.

The "2 combo guard thing" is not ideal for this team. Might get a few wins here and there, but at what cost to the future. Bring in a vet. Someone who's shown to be mature, disciplined and above all else smart with the ball. Trade EG and whoever if you can for one. Doesn't have to be great. Not looking for a star or even a future star, just someone who has those 3 traits. A guy who can really lead this group. At least til we get a lead guard or one of our guards develops into that guy.

    Vet PG
    J Green
KPJ (or Tari w/ KPJ as 6th man)
    Bari
    Sengun

NOTE: Sadly I highly doubt they would do this due to Silas and Lucas's attachment to KPJ. If up to me I would get rid of any coach who cannot seperate his personal feelings for what is best for the team. I can only assume that Stone's letting it play out in hopes of lucking out in the lottery. BUT AGAIN at what cost?

Thanks for explaining beautifully. People has to understand that most fans do not hate KPJ, actually like him but hate the idea to play him as PG. If they continue this experiment people start to dislike him day by day and he will end up as villain. Sad case, bad coaching.

They are developing fine we aren’t winning with so many players under 22.

They are developing fine, except KPJ. I was a big proponent of his, but he has changed my mind with his inability, either through forethought or lack of bbiq, to find the open man. It’s lightning in a bottle sixth man for me or trade bait.

For me I want to keep going to see if he eventually gets his TOS down, if not I want Amen Thompson as Point Forward or a trade.

I’m ok with it, but I wish we could get TyTy and him on the court together and see if he can function well as an off guard with a pass first pg.

and these are low stakes, low pressure, almost meaningless games where he struggles so much with running a team

I can’t imagine KPJ as the PG for a team in a playoff series or even play-in game…our offense would get eaten alive

he might average 14 points on horrible shooting, 5 assists, and 6 turnovers a game in a playoff series as the PG

i started watching some 20-21 clips of KPJ to refresh my memory of where he/we started. he seems like way more of a willing passer then than now and even the biggest KPJ fans have be at least the slightest concern with his development...no?

not sure if he is mentally strong enough to accept being a 6th man right now in his career, but after he is 25 it really is the best role for him. seriously, he could come in and take as many shots as we he wants against easier matchups. can find a backup big to pair with him and spam PnR unabashedly without concern for getting any teammates involved. isn't that the perfect scenario for him?

obviously we aren't going to do anything this season, but barring any crazy development in the next half of the season, i'd expect us to start making plans for finding a different fit at the 1 for the future.

The biggest problem with KPJ is that he thinks (and acts like) he is "the man" on this team.

The biggest problem with Rockets management and coaching staff is that they enable and encourage this behaviour.

6th man scorer type or traded somewhere else AFAIC with KPJ

I used to entertain the idea of him as a SF, as a wing, but this guy is small for the position and rail thin…he is not built like an EG where he can handle guarding strong wing players…plus Tari Eason is our SF of the future, his hustle and defense are already game changing as a rookie, and his jumper isn’t as bad as I thought it would be starting out

doubt KPJ is accepting a 6th man role tho…he takes the technical free throws even tho he’s not even that good of a free throw shooter, he takes the clutch shots for the most part, and he even gets introduced last in player introductions…he probably thinks he should be 1A or 1B to Jalen at worst

Yeah, he is forcing way too many shots. You see him shoot quite a lot of really tough shots - he makes some of them, but the team can get better shots than that and should try to get better shots. The main problem here is, that he seems to decide if he wants to score or pass before he starts the drive. Now when the defense collapses he still tries to finish instead of passing to the teammate, that the defense helps off of. When he developes the flexibility to pass when he was driving to pass, his game will open up and we will be a better team.

That's why he has to go for this team to become a winning team. Even if we were to get a real veteran leader or even Wemby, KPJ would not change his ways.

    KPJ holds everyone else back.

As does Silas, nice guy and all.

The combination of these two is the problem.

So you're mad because he takes the technical free throws and his name gets called last during introductions?
