No, I'm not his mother. But based on your response, it looks like I'm your Daddy.

I'm not against creating a watch list. the means with wich people appear on it is what needs to be regulated and overseen. That is the area where Bush is responsible for infringing on the rights of people like the war hero mentioned in the OP.

Am I the only one who thinks there might be more to this story?

I will say one thing. It is really hard to get off of the terrorist watch-list once you're on it. I met a guy on a plane who had the same name as a known MS-13 terrorist. That got him on the terrorist watch list. He was, of all things, an independent contractor who set up electronic systems for the Department of Homeland Security. All of the internet ticket brokers and such refused to sell to him. He had to order his tickets at least a week in advance, and the airline had to clear it with some bureaucracy before selling him the tickets. He had tried multiple times to get off, to no avail.

Par for the course: you accuse me of using emotional arguments and then you go play the drama queen. Man up.

All it takes is to have the "same name" as someone who is on the list to get held up at the airport when trying to get a boarding pass. It's an absolute, royal pain in the ass. I suspect it would be a pain in the ass for magical donkeys, as well. I don't think you need to have made some public statement critical of the Administration or it's policies. That would encompass millions. But who really knows, for sure? One of the worst things about the "Patriot" Act is that it is far too broad and far too secretive. Not to mention running roughshod over our civil rights. Say something against many of it's provisions and you have idiots accusing you of being unpatriotic. The same idiots would have said the same to Thomas Jefferson and Ben Franklin when they were alive, based on the views they held, compared to the far-right views of the Administration and the former GOP Congress.

    D&D. Idiots in Space.

and i agree that there should be and that it needs to be an effecient and effective system for finding potential bad guys. But are you implying there are not regulations, protocalls and supervision of this project? I would doubt that. Im sure they do. now maybe they are not perfect, but I just dont think they are malicious or ineffcient on purpose...would you say that?

I think its a pretty complex thing to master and adjustments will always need to be made.

Not to disappoint the Magical Jack Ass ...
Agree with incompetence and group think angle but ...

We got people being put onto watch lists due to exercising the constitutional right for free speech.

We got the DoD going to peace rallies and taking names.

It all boils down to political retribution. The message the Bush Admin wants to get out is that there will be retribution if you oppose Bush politically. If the side effects of such retributions are malicious, ...

well its good to see that when someone doesnt walk the company line they get singled out and mocked.

what an excellent place to openly and freely exchange ideas..so long as it agrees with everyone else, or you get made fun of.

way to go guys. you've reduced yourselves to elementary kids picking on the 'different' one. you all must be very proud.

Please excuse us. Who were we to question the competency of the CiC?

    Carry on.

I am implying that the current restrictions in place aren't near enough, and they have been set up in such a way that merely exercising free speech will land you on an enemies list. The person responsible for setting it up that way, is Bush.

Pobresito. Awwww.......... you know this persecuted/picked on/above all the meaness routine is really getting old. You smack of a bush apologist. You're not the only one. But you seem to be the only one whining about it.

I mean as much as I dislike the crap posted by tj,basshole, roxran and the rest. At least they don't whine when they get piled on for saying something stupid or saying anything.
Grow up, in case you haven't noticed politics is a very dirty game. This board is tame compared to what really goes on out in real life.

And as for your belief that we all think bush is evil, tell me who here has called him evil? Saddam Hussein is/was evil. bush is petty, politially petty and worse, a hypocrite.
If you want to categorize that as evil, that's your business. But I wouldn't call him evil.

With due respect, my most of my posts are much less different than the board as a whole than DonkeyMagic's. I'm one of the "disaffected conservatives" that rimrocker and mc mark like to quote so often. Other than my complete disdain for any kind of socialized healthcare and relentless defense of Christianity, for most of the major topics that I have strong feelings about, my views aren't that different from the board as a whole. I'm against the war, against most of the PATRIOT Act, and I generally sympathize with minorities on Civil Rights issues.

Of course, I also don't take much personally, so that helps as well.

Don't know why but I never considered you a conservative.

Of course most people may not believe it, but I am a moderate independent versus a whacked out liberal. There it is.

I often call myself a Libertarian to distinguish myself from the neocons. But I'm much more in line with traditional conservatives.

Weslinder, while you make a good point that you agree with the left side of the board on a # of issues, you also argue from a conservative perspective on a # of issues. The reason you don't get hit with disdain, at least from me, when I disagree with you, is that you almost always support your positions with facts and sound logic.

This is in stark contrast to the way Donkey posts.
