Kolb joins BYU's John Beck, Brady Quinn of Notre Dame, Troy Smith of Ohio State and Michigan State's Drew Stanton as one of the five finalists. These five star quarterbacks were selected by a committee of football experts from across the United States. "After years of playing getting named to watch lists, that is the furthest it goes for a lot of people," said Kolb. "To be a finalist is pretty neat for me. I hope they actually consider me for the award, but we have to win for the team first. That's the way it has been the whole season, and it will continue to be like that. A Houston team draft a hometown product? That hasn't happened since say, Hakeem? I'm still bitter about passing on Rashard Lewis.
I liked Kolb when he was a freshman but I have not watched him a lot. I knew he would be an awesome quarterback and improve every year, but do you guys who have seen him play a lot think he will be an NFL quarterback. He seems like he should be a good prospect but maybe won't get enough respect or scouts will look at him as a product of the system that he knows so well.
I think he will be a first day pick,probably 2nd round guy. In spite of the system he has the arm unlike some of the Tech qb's. He has a very good arm and can make all the throws. If he shines in the post season workouts I could see him moving into the first round.
Well, I don't think Kolb will be thought of THAT highly. If UH was having a good a season as Fresno St. (Carr) and Utah (Alex Smith) did then maybe he'd be considered with 1st or 2nd rounder. UH is having a good season buy they (and consequently Kolb) aren't receiving national attention or anything. I thing that his best case is a late 3rd round pick but is more likely to be a 5th (maybe mid to late 4th) rounder.
