mmm...kolaches. dont know if its been mentioned yet, but the little czec stop in west, texas is great. its about a half hour north of waco on the northbound side of i-35. sausage and sauerkraut kolaches rule! they also have bad-ass cream cheese pastries in several fruit flavors like blueberry, pineapple, strawberry, ect. ill spend about $30 bucks when im there and eat like a gluttonous little german boy for a week.
I'll be darned....I mentioned earlier that I had some poppyseed kolaches in my freezer. They're from the Czech Stop. I've got some struedel in the freezer from there too. If you like Kolaches and Pivo, I highly recommend going to West for Labor Day. The town ain't that big for most of the year, but every Labor day all the Czech's (and whomever else likes to party) come out for West fest. These websites are down today, so it must be a city-wide thing: check them again tomorrow. www.westfest.com www.west-tx.com http://czechstop.net/
Sorry to revive this thread, but I made my own kolaches today and they turned out great! I found some really good little polish sausages to use, and for my first try I actually bought premade dough. (only because I wanted to surprise my wife) But she makes bread so she'll make the dough from now on. We're going to bring a batch to the owner of the donut shop and see if they'll consider adding them to the menu. Could be the first kolaches ever served in Utah.
Best Kolache place in the state is the Czech Stop in West, Texas between DAllas and Austin. It rules.
