of all the kobe hating i've read, and there has been plenty, not being clutch and not trying are two things i've never heard until Jeffster in this thread. those are pretty much the two things he always gets credit for.

you seem to be arguing kobe would score 81 every game if only he tried. quite a ridiculous standard since it implies there are no good games or bad games.

as for the game where kobe didn't shoot, it only lasted a half, though it was funny you're one example came from 2 years ago.

I agree with you, Kobe is one of the most clutch players in the league and has been for a few seasons now. Jeffster, you're wrong on this one.

It's funny though, only a guy like Ron Artest could take the buzz out of what Kobe did.

The nba sure is getting more publicity though.

Screw all this "Kobe better than Wilt" stuff -- the real number that counts is Wilt's amazing 20,000 career conquests. When Kobe gets up to 16,000 or so, then I'll start paying attention. :)

Just watched the Raptors broadcast. Weird game. The Lakers just looked like they didn't come to play and the Raptors were going to get an easy win. Kobe sat out the first half of the 2nd period while the Raptors extended their lead. He stunk it up for a while in the 2nd period before finishing strong. Meanwhile, the Raptors kept increased their lead until it was 63-49 at halftime. The boo birds were out. The Lakers looked completely defeated and had no energy.

Kobe missed his first couple of shots in the 3rd quarter, Mike James hit another 3 and it was 66-49! It was 71-53 with 8:54 left. One of the Raptors announcers basically wrote the Lakers off. The Lakers still weren't showing much energy. Lamar Odom was a joke. No wonder Lakers fans hate him so much. Then Kobe hit a 2 for his 32nd point and the rest is history.

For those of you who tried to say he scored most of his points in garbage time, it was a 4 point game with 7:25 left and 9 with 5:45 remaining in the 4th quarter. I'd say only his last 9 points were garbage.

From watching this game and reading about Wilt's 100 points, Kobe was far more amazing than Wilt easily. Wilt's game was all about Wilt. This was a real NBA game until the last 3 minutes and a bitter loss for the Raptors.

Last comment: The only two players who impress me on the Raptors are Chris Bosh and Jalen Rose. They were the only ones who didn't completely choke in the 2nd half when the Lakers and the crowd got inspired. After a sterling first half, Mike James was jittery and passive when the Lakers took over the game by increasing their defensive intensity. Rose and Bosh kept their cool and did what they could, but it wasn't enough when their teammates started playing like high school sophomores. I don't necessarily want him on the Rockets, but if a contending team wants to add a veteran player that could help get them over the hump, Jalen Rose has plenty of gas left in the tank. He makes smart decisions and has a lot of savvy on the court. He also doesn't seem to have the attitude problems any more. Someone playoff team is gonna pick him up and be very glad they did. Not to diss Mike James because of one game, but his good scoring and assist stats don't tell the whole story. He is definitely no PG and still has no idea how to run an offense. He does not belong as a starter in the NBA except on a sorry team. But as a 6th/7th man, MJ is extraordinary. I'm undecided on the Rafer/MJ trade, but right now I lean towards liking it.

On the Kobe/Wilt stuff, I'm not saying Kobe is a better player or has had a better career. That's crazy! I'm only comparing the two games. Slight edge for Kobe as far as the scoring goes. Wilt also grabbed 25 rebounds. Wilt had a big advantage because he was so far ahead of his time athletically. Kobe's feat was more difficult.

This is what i do not agree with. Saying wilt has got an advantage because he was ahead of his time, that is the whle point isn't it, he was so far ahead of his time, that he was so much better then everybody else. So he was better, in comparisment with the rest of his time, then kobe is.

However i know you said you didn't say this to compare kobe and wilt, but i just wanted t add this to the entire discussion, so it was not directed at what you said.

Both games were unbelievable, and fantastic. but if you want to compaire them on how much they scored, it is 80 to 100, so wilt scored more. (it doesn't matter for who it is harder, because if you do that you can also have a discussion which was better, a 80 point game by kobe, or a 30 point game by ryan bowen, and then you can say that bowen had the best game ever played)

Just for clarity: Both games were amazing. Kobe's 81 was much more difficult for any player in 2005 to do than Wilt scoring his 100 back in 1962. That is my point. I'll leave out the subjective word "amazing".

Wilt played 48 mins vs. Kobe's 41. Kobe's game meant something, and it was competitive until about 4 minutes were left. Wilt's game became a complete side show very very early in the 4th quarter. Wilt admits when he got 80, he and everyone else, started thinking about 100. The last 3 minutes of Wilt's game was a 20 minute long foul-fest (both teams) of a joke. The Warriors even had Wilt bring the ball upcourt! It was a late season game nobody cared about. By several people's descriptions the game was a "farce". Watch the Raptors game. It definitely was NOT a farce.

I agree on Jalen Rose, isn't he a free agent after this season? he'ld be an excellent SG on the Rockets, the guy is just a scorer, period, and probably would be deserving of 3 years for the full MLE, IMO.

Excellent post. Someone on this message board who sat down and watched the game and then gave their opinion instead of immedietaly bashing Kobe with no regard as to what they were talking about. Good Job, i'm impressed.
