It's not even really the bad officiating - it's the lack of consistency and the double standards. Even Phil Jackson commented several times that he is frustrated by the lack of consistency in officiating just like most fans on this forum who see the double standard of the Kobe/Wades of the world. If Artest threw that elbow in Kobe's throat, how would this be different? I guarantee you Artest doesn't walk away without a foul like Kobe did and I guarantee you every half hearted Lakers fan would be on the internetz tonight b****ing just as loud. Artest is a lot stronger than Kobe, and was just pushing him around for position. Kobe did the only thing he could, and that was throw an elbow. Suspension?...Probably not...it was during a physical battle, and this happens a lot in basketball. He should get some sort of technical though...the league needs to send some sort of message...they need to acknowledge this dirty play, and not turn the other cheek to protect the image of their baby.

When Dwight Howard was suspended, the NBA said it's automatic if "an elbow is thrown and makes contact above the shoulders." My understanding of that is it doesn't matter if Artest bent down and Kobe didn't mean to do it.

The test is:

1. Did Kobe intentionally throw an elbow? Looks like yes.
2. Did the elbow make contact above a player's shoulders intentional or not? Yes.

If #1 and #2 are met, it's supposed to be a game. That's what they said about Dwight Howard. It will be fun to watch the NBA try to squirm out of it.

 

They didn't really squirm for the Shane knee and elbow to the head. They brushed it off and that was that. Kobe got off free, just like he expected.

 

If Deke is still with us he could've cracked Kobe's skull with his sharp elbows... and Fisher's skull too...

 

If the roles were reversed and it was our Ron who elbowed Kobe, let's just say the league would review it and Ron Ron will be cheering in street clothes in the next game.

Kobe threw his elbows with intent. Fisher also threw his shoulder into scola with intent but accidentally headbutted Scola in the face.

IMO Scola wouldn't have gone down badly if it weren't for the headbutt.
