Seriously? that's a pretty dumb and immature response. What would you do?Start a fight, get suspended, lose thousands if not millions of dollars? Yeah, he sure is a p*ss for not escalating the situation. I'm pretty sure he knew what he was doing and was trying to piss him off even more.
Jordan knew when it was time to shave his head bald. I didn't notice until tonight (cousin pointed it out) that Kobe has a fivehead.
There was a gif posted maybe last week of kobe condescendingly slapping Gasol's head on the sideline. Its not a punch in the face, but same vein. And after that ridiculous scowl on the and1, I seriously contemplated skipping the rest of the game. Except for his skill he's about as real as his puppet on the Nike commercials.
NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO!NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO!NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO!NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! Not another Kobe Jordan post dammit these kill me!
Sorry, didn't realize there were ones that were primarily for discussing the perceived double-standard in their character flaws. I don't have the ability to search, would you mind linking me to them? I'd be interested in reading them since this thread has predictably deteriorated into a Kobe bashfest.
You can model your game after a player, but to walk & talk like that players is stalker type *hit. Most Kobe fans I meet are pretty lame, so it doesn't surprise me they are fans of his. Kobe dad played in the NBA, what's wrong with being like him?
I recall a lot of that stuff coming out in the tell all book that you mentioned. No, I don't recall MJ calling telling the media that his teammates sucked, and demanding to be traded. I also don't recall him preening all around the court hollering about who can't sotp him, or gritting teeth after each shot, or doing the nut dance, or ratting out his teammates to cops, or refusing to shoot to prove a point (in a playoff game at that), etc.
Tex told Jordan to make his teammates better and Jordan mouthed off back and said, "Get me better teammates."
Again, was this done inside the Bulls org and reported somewhere, or was this done out in the media? Did he go to the media crying about him wanting to get help and get traded, even when he had crap teams (see Kobe 2 years ago)? You say MJ treated teammates like crap, but where are the incidents of him say, telling dudes (on camera) how garbage Bynum was, or calling another teammate fat (Shaq) in a 1-1 interview? You say he punched a teammate....do you have an example of him doing this in a game situation, i.e. Kobe on Gasol in our series? Someone asked why MJ isn't villafied like Kobe....he isn't doing the things in public that Kobe is doing. MJ gets superhot in the playoffs and he shrugs his shoulders with a smile like "I don't know". Kobe gets hot and walks around the court doing his best "I am hard/gritty teeth" face, or yelling to announcers that this MF can't stop me. It's the same reason why KG get's so much hate around here. Even in the press conference last night, Kobe is like I refuse to smile because I am so businesslike. Whatever dude....it seems so fake to some. MJ hit's a gamewinner (i.e. 98 Finals or the Ehlo shot) and jumps around like normal, or walks back to his bench. Kobe does a nut dance. I don't see how it's not clear why some would think one was an arrogant jerk while the other wasn't. As much as anyone says MJ was a horrible teammate, would you ever have known about it if it weren't reported behind the scenes? In other words, how often did he seem like a bad teammate or a jerk on the court? That's the difference.
Kobe is a degenerate. He seems to have some need to put on the tough guy act at the ripe, old of age of 30. The new face scowl thing is almost like he is channeling KG. I don't know why the Jordan personality comparison keeps coming up. Nobody in their right mind ever thought of Jordan as a nice guy or a buddy in the locker room. The difference between Jordan and Kobe are a few things: Jordan was a much better player Jordan won 6 rings as the undisputed leader of a team Jordan knew how to keep the dirty/mean stuff out of the eye of the media Jordan's technique (no matter how mean it might have been) was tried and true. As long as you're winning nobody is going to complain. 6 Titles gives Mike all the excuses he needs. Kobe hasn't led a team to any Championships (although he is about to get one), he is not the player Jordan was and he can't help but be a jerk to his team mates right in front of everyone only to get on TV later and try to pretend like he is some kind of super friend to everyone on the team. He's fake and he acts like an amateur.
He's punched Samaki Walker for sure and I believe a few others (I am too lazy to use the google). But I really don't care about guys fighting in practice. I actually question a guy's competitiveness if practice doesn't get a little heated now and again. My problem is the on the court stuff. There is nothing wrong with chewing a guy out on the court if he deserves it. I expect that from a team leader. I do have a problem when the leader strikes, shoves or otherwise physically bullies a team mate in a game.
...At this rate, I have to say...to lend some rational thing to this argument, for Kobe to equal Micheal in my books he would have to pull off... A DPOY Two more MVPs Four more Finals MVPs. Four more Championships. A flu game. A season shooting 50% or above. etc. etc. I just think the difference is too large to bridge. You all do realize that at the end of 12 seasons (equivalent to Kobe's career right now), Micheal had already won his 6 Finals MVPs/6 championships right? Kobe has a long way to go on that and the time is slowly closing on him. It's not impossible...but I highly doubt it.
