Pau Gasol brought this uncertainty and trade issues upon himself. He wouldn't even be on the trading block if he didn't crumble under the pressure and perform inexplicably poor in the playoffs last year. If it was a competitive series and they lost they wouldn't even think about moving him. Pau has lost "it"..whatever that is, he'll never be the same again, even when Bynum was suspended he wouldn't go down to the post. His days of being an all star are over.

    Watch.

Tomorrow Pau will have a good game and Laker fans will turn around, signing his praises and calling him the best PF in the league.

    LA=FAKE.

How is trading the 24 year old Bynum for the 26 year old best center in the NBA "giving up their future"? Howard is barely older than Bynum.

Its hard to think that way when everyone in the NBA is making millions. From slaves working in goldmines in Africa's perspective you're one lazy mofo every time you take off an hour for lunch break. They'd probably work from dawn till dusk to actually receive a salary.

You should check out Association with the Denver Nuggets. They all talk about how the melo situation is really getting to them etc.

I never said though that it's a big part of losing, it's just a situation that hurts the whole team in general though, an unnecessary situation if you ask me.

Way to throw your teammate under the bus again kobe.

What hes saying is "Pau's not playin well cuz his minds on bein traded, and thats why were losing games."

    Because of Pau.

Funny how Pau plays horrible last year and lakers get swept by dallas, but when pau was playin tremendous and they were winnin titles, it was because of kobe.

Actually, it should affect athletes in a team sport more than the normal Joe employee. Team chemistry is important for a team to succeed. Unless the guy is not happy about the team and wants out. Otherwise, having this cloud over your head that you are being actively shopped is hard to push aside. The thought that maybe tomorrow you would be playing with some other teammates has got to be bothersome.

I think Battier talked about this at the trade deadline last year. Battier is as professional as you can get. Even he was affected by the trade rumors.

I don't disagree that it can hurt the team and team morale. I even agree with the post wrt to morale, and not mattering how much one is paid. I understand that Nuggets team was a completely different team and not an apples to apples comparison. Absent the Melo drama, maybe they would have been much better.

But I was just pointing out that, especially with regards to a sport like basketball, its impact is often, especially on this board, overstated.

Two of the greatest dynastic teams of the last 20 years - the Bulls and Lakers - were constantly fighting through team chemistry issues, often subtly played up by their coach. A team is as likely to come together (see Houston Rockets post failed Robert Horry-Sean Elliot) trade as it is to "fall apart".

I'm not discounting chemistry, mind you. I think it's supremely important.

I just don't think the "treat them like assets" issue is highly correlated with on court performance of the team.

You could pay them a billion dollars, and its not going to make their emotions and/or other human traits go away.

Certainly there are players that dont play as hard as they should or could. But the human condition is an up and down thing when it comes to ones ability to focus and ignore errant thoughts.

That dude went full r****d with his post. Not only is there barely a age difference but Howard also doesn't carry Bynum's injury concerns.

    Full r****d? how original.

Bynum actually has a polished offensive game. Hook shots, mid range shots. Howard has dunks and tip dunks and very little post game. Bynum has had injury concerns but Howard relies on athleticism to get baskets. Bynum doesn't and he's just as good on defense. I could see Bynum playing in the league for 10 more years while Howard is retired.

There are tons of cases where someone doesn't like their environment but sacrifices all for the team. When you're on the court of battle you shouldn't be thinking about owners and fans. You should be thinking about your teammates and winning.

It's a business. The GM should always keep communication lines open and listen to offers. You never know when an offer comes along that can't be refused (like the Pau trade with Memphis). If communication lines are closed, those kinds of deals would never happen.

You see the guy who's missed about half the total games since he came into the league playing longer than a guy who never misses a game and keeps himself in excellent condition? I'd take that bet.

Dwight has missed 7 games in 7 seasons. And if I recall correctly one of those games that he missed was due to a flu that affected the entire team.

No way in hell Bynum will last longer in this league than Dwight.
