i think t-mac would be fine being traded for kobe. he knows kobe's the best player in the league. he'd probably feel honored. :D

I doubt it. If this trade goes down, T-Mac might never get out the first round again. I'm positive he rather have a chance to win a ring than to be traded for one of the best players in the game.

True, how would everyone feel at the end of next season when he opted out of his contract and high tailed it to Chicago? I have no doubts Tracy would sign an extension. Kobe, not thinking so.

Obviously any team trading for Kobe is going to do so with an extension in place and is going to be a place Kobe wants to go. It's also obvious that Kobe is a better player than TMac individually, and if you can make that trade, get the contract extension worked out and not get hosed by whatever other players you are giving away with TMac or forced to take with Kobe you do it.

This is all here say of course, but it certainly seems possible that the Lakers made a deal with Kobe to keep his mouth shut and back off the public trade demands so his value doesn't plummet in exchange for doing everything they can to trade him to a team that he approves of. The Rockets are certainly one of the only teams that can give anything close to equal value back to the Lakers. I kind of doubt Kobe gets traded at all this year, but there aren't many other teams that could offer better deals to LA that Kobe would be likely to sign off on.

Was Kobe saying he would only go to Phoenix, Chicago, and Dallas true? Or did the media fabricate it? Because if not, why is Houston even being discussed if he didnt name us? Dont listen to Stephen A. Smith! He also said that Denver would make a championship run after the Iverson trade last year...

Man, it's sickening how people are blinded by the bling and glamour of leading the leading in scoring. T-Mac did it when he had to and stick him on the Fakers and ask him to lead the league in scoring and he would do it, easily! Dude averaged 25 last season, as a playmaker who deferred to Yao!

You people act like T-Mac is over the hill and no longer a superstar. I still put him up there with the elite swing players Wade, Lebron, Kobe, and Melo.

I hope the Rox don't do this and ruin my love for them

I'd take Kobe over T-Mac. "It's on me"...have fun in LA!

Let's get this straight now. Every GM called the Lakers to see what it would take to get something done. So it doesn't mean jack (hurting T-Mac feelings) if Morey called to see what it would take, because he's supposed to. But I'm sure when Kupchak said T-Mac or Yao, that was probably the end of the conversation.

As someone said, we are lucky to be in a position to have talents to even be considered in a trade for a player like Kobe, but as another poster said, although Kobe is a better overall player, the talent upgrade isn't big enough to do it. In fact you lose assist and willing to give the ball up for more points. The net gain is probably not all that much after you consider those things.

Now, if there a way without Mac or Yao......you do it, even if your bench looks like the Celtics.

I don't "like" Kobe based on the way he comes across in the media, but the fact is I haven't met him or Tmac in person and I likely never will on any sort of personal level. If he can help us win games then I want him on the team, that is the bottom line.

i hope we are not even considering this trade... this is tmac's team, and i do not see kobe being THAT much of an upgrade over mac.. as a matter of fact, mcgrady might be a better fit for this offense because of his court vision and passing ability.. kobe is a stud, but he comes across as a spoiled brat to me. dont get me wrong, tmac had his moments in orlando, but since he has been in houston he has been great. additionally, i enjoy watching tmac more than i like watching kobe.. tmac plays with such grace, its like poetry on the basketball court. keep the mac, pass on the brat. ;)

Would it be the ultimate slap in the face to Francis if he was included in a package w/ T-mac to the Lakers after signing for less money because he wanted to ball in H-town?

But yeah, I just don't see this happening unless Kobe signed an extention with us to stay after his opt out clause. Even then, I'm still against it, we have too much talent to bring in a player like Kobe. He is unstoppable, but he needs to dominate the ball to be effective. Besides I'm sure not long after he gets here he's gonna be demanding that we bring Phil Jackson over. H#%#$%^ll, no.

Ummm... no. He'd be getting traded from what could very possibly be the best team in the league to one of the worst in the west.

The odds of this happening are damn near zilch, but even if it was actually on the table, all I have to say is: HELL ****ING NO.

It would be pretty evil to trade T-Mac to the Lakers right as he's finally getting a team around him that should be able to get past the first round.

I like TMAC and his chemistry but you have got to be kidding if you think the Rockets wouldn't take that deal...adn so would I....you all forget aobut TMAC's back problems..that could come back anytime....eventhough I don't like Kobe's personality that much, he leaves everything on the floor...that guy is fierce competitor....we have all questioned TMAC's desire on this board...he doesn't seem like he gives it 100% every game.....it would be nice to get past the 1st round....
if that trade were offerd, WE WOULD HAVE TO DO IT!!

Kobe had Odom (who averaged more boards, blocks and shot better % than Yao this postseason, and didn't get dominated defensively) in the playoffs last year and couldn't get out of the first round either. Both players lost to better squads. Don't mention T-Mac having Yao and ignore that Yao wasn't even the best frontcourt player that series...or that he played worse than the Lakers SF/PF.

Yao wasn't close to 100% after being rushed back from injury. Also along with being a center,I see no reason why Yao should pick up where he left off pre injury....esp. in an offense that takes advantage of his total game.We have depth which would lead me to believe he and the rest of the Rockets will be peaking come year's end.

Kobe is the best player in the game and Yao COULD be right there with him at the end of this year.

This is the 'conventional wisdom', but Kobe has been mum, mute, silent on destination acceptabilities. However, his agent just might be whispering sweet little nadas in reporters' ears?

Did any of you guys notice that during the playoff series against Utah whenever we were in tight situations, we gave the ball to Yao and our offense got clogged up (or down, depending on how you look at it). I am by no means against Yao or anything, but on that note I also blame Tmac for keep on giving Yao the ball. When Yao doesn't dominate on the low block, he takes 10ft jumpers and gets blocked.

Sorry probably has nothing to do with thread at all but just something to get off my chest :)
