Some unfortunate defender will probably get a kick in the nutz from Kobe's "iron leg" when they overextend on a block attempt.
I don't know. It's not really a "move" in the sense that it uses misdirection to get the defender to get off of you. It doesn't require fancy footwork or faking. It's just jumping back away from the defender and shoot. It is basically a face up fadeaway. The only thing that makes it special is the ability to retain balance and shooting touch.
lol, the very first shot by Hakeem in this video is "Dirk's" iron leg step back. Notice how he steps back with the left leg and kicks out the right. So, Hakeem actually invented it. Hakeem is so awesome.
I see absolutely no resemblance. Kobe is simply the greatest basketball player of all-time. You mere mortals are just trying to insult him.
Interesting how the right leg kind of mimics the shooting form. As the arm releases the ball, the leg fully extends. Just an observation.

I was partly joking because Hakeem didn't have Dirk's range on the shot, but the first shot by Hakeem in that video is indeed a step back off the left leg, kicking out the right. It is Dirk's shot.
Though both are good, I like Dirk's subtle technician "done this before" touch to his stepback, than Kobe's more pronounced, aesthetically nicer attempt. If it was like baseball pitchers, Kobe is getting them with "stuff", but Dirk can "locate" the ball in
Can you blame him? If Dirk put a whooping on me like he and the Mavs did to the Lakers last year I'd be looking to steal some of his moves too.
For shorter players the leg kickout is key. reggie miller used to do that all the time to maintain distance from the defender and even got the and 1 sometimes because the defender hit his foot. I used to kick my leg out all the time and it was effective. That is until i accidentally kicked some angry guy in the nuts and he pulled out a knife. Never did it again.
