it's fake. if you pause the video just before the car gets to kobe, you could see that the shadow of the car does not align with the shadow of kobe, in other words, the car went from kobe's right side.
I'm laughing at the three page discussion whether this is real or fake. the bad acting- "in the midst of a playoff race", the shoe being shoved into the camera. the bad acting.... this is even a debate?
When you pause it the front wheel looks like it's turning....and no driver??? (may be sitting low). It's gotta be fake, he plays for the Fakers.
As has been said over and over again in this thread... its fake. its a viral marketing campaign used to get the buzz out on Kobe's new shoes... think about it - would we be discussing Kobe or analyzing this at all if he had done a plain old ordinary tv commercial for his shoes? no. we wouldn't give it a single thought... but with this fake video - message boards across the country, and water coolers in every office, are buzzing about whether Kobe actually did it - and everyone is going to Youtube to see the video - and they get to see that he a)has a new shoe out and b)what his new shoe looks like. i'm a 30-year old man sitting in an office right now, way past my basketball playing prime... if it wasn't for this video - i wouldn't have known that Kobe has new bball shoes out... see - it worked - on me and the rest of us... successful marketing campaign.
If it was fake...man they did a great job with the shadows...especially if you dissect the video frame by frame.
I'd say its fake because before Kobe jumps, if you look at where the bottom Kobe's foot is, then try to line it up with the bottom of the tires, you would notice that his foot is lower(or to the left in Kobe's point of view) than the tire on the screen. Meaning instead of jumping OVER the car, he jumped to the SIDE of the car which made it appear that he literally jumped over the car.
I don't think Kobe could even jump over my car, and my car is slammed to the ground. EDIT: On second thought, maaaaaybe, but it'd be incredibly difficult because the timing would have to be perfect. Cars are longer than you think. The car would have to be going really fast (as that Aston Martin was) and at that speed you lose all hope for a 'margin of error' with the stunt. You mess up the timing even a little bit and you're done. It's not even close to worth the risk, but that's not the point of this thread anyways. No way that ad is real. The real question is, could Kobe do it if he wanted to? Maaaaaaybe...
Enough with the speculation. Here's the final answer, from Kobe himself. <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/3FHx_UWe7gc&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/3FHx_UWe7gc&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
