does it seem weird that, in this climate, the nba is making such a big deal out of kobe's jersey retirement? it's been kobe week all week on nbatv. you see people talking it up anywhere and everywhere on other media, but no mention of colorado. this is a guy who wasn't just accused, but had a lengthy trial for rape. i know we have courts for a reason and he was considered not guilty (which obviously isn't necessarily innocent), but then even a civil trial ended with a settlement, which nowadays is pretty much considered a guilty plea in the court of public opinion. now the guy only receives praise for his play and competitiveness, etc. now full disclosure, i went from hating the shaq/kobe lakers to rooting for kobe for most of the end of the 2000's. it was more of an anti-shaq, anti-basketball purist "sharing the ball with smush parker is smarter than ball-hogging fairly efficiently" rooting interest, but an older me wishes a younger me had cared more about the allegations. and now it just seems even more difficult to pretend it never happened. and it just speaks to a bigger issue. when will this movement hit sports, which might be the quintessential confluence of misogyny, money/power, and a sense of entitlement and thinking you should get whatever you want.
a lot of stuff pre-twitter got swept under the rug. we just completely forgot ben rothlisberger was accused of rape.
I fairness, I do suspect that sports athletes are more likely than any other group who of men to be falsely accused of sexual assault. Chuck Hayes was also accused of sexual assault while in college, but he was completely exonerated.
Don't forget Nelson Agholor of the Eagles just a year or two ago. There was also an UDFA in the NFL this off-season who dealt with something similar while at Temple University a few years ago.
Kobe Bryant admitted that he didn’t have consent when he raped a teenage girl so bad that her blood splattered all over his white t-shirt. It doesn’t matter, some people just get more slack than others. He got away with it 14 years ago and he got very lucky.
The only thing Kobe is guilty is being a successful black man in white Colorado at the time. That gold digger saw an opportunity and made the best out of the situation. I'm sure she isn't working at no front desk anymore. She probably owns a front desk. Kobe is the GOAT. After that is Stephan Curry and soon Lonzo Ball.
So many ex Laker scrubs on the court lol. 2 things we took away from Kobe’s weak ceremony. Kobe’s wife’s t*** were poppin out. Stifflers Mom is worth a billion but chooses to bang Santa Clause Uncle Phil.
I can't tell if you are joking here or not, the first part sounds serious but I broke out in laughter at those last two sentences.
I was also annoyed that Chik Hearn Jersey was in the middle of it. I’m also annoyed Carroll Dawson has a dam jersey retired and its In our current ugly jerseys. And Yao too. Please change all jerseys to the old look. New complaint thread coming ...
