Rocketeer is right. Zoids, you post like an idiot. You need to watch the game before making clueless posts. What has Kobe bought to the league? YOU HAVE GOT TO BE FREAKING KIDDING ME! Some of the greatest clutch shooting in league history, multiple championships, an MVP, finals MVP, multiple All-NBA teams, multiple All-Defensive teams, 81 poins in a single game (most in the modern era). And he still has a few more years left in the tank. As of right now, he is already one of the greatest. Just another great scorer? How many great scorers have that resume? You claim you are keeping your posts about basketball? I call bull**** there. Whether or not he was, was not, is, is not a rapist is irrelevant (it is alleged and has absolutely nothing to do with basketball). You cannot deny the fact that he is a shoe-in to the HOF
Stop bloating his resume, coz it just show you a blinded fan. Kobe won 3 champs as second-fiddle next to Shaq. Point proved by Shaq left Lakers and won the champ with Wade immediately while Kobe was no where even close that year. Then he won the Champ because the Lakers got the unfair Gasol trade with Grizzlies, many playoff executives saw this trade coming and complained. But again, like those players who got traded and then got buy out and waved then sign back to the original Contenders. This is a loop hole David Stern turned a blind eye on. The 81 pts in a game is all joke. If Jordan got this touchy tacky fouls back in his days, he probably broke the Chamberlain record already. What Kobe did in that game was amazing, but not to the point that tops the Chamberlain 100 pts performance or the multiple performance that other players put out previously. Fact is Kobe's achievement was bloated by the rule change more than his own skills. His championship was more like piggybacked by Shaq. He doesn't even have a better shooting percentage than Jordan with the new rules. He got all those MVPs just because there was a gap that NBA doesn't have any true great players until Wade and Lebron. Kobe is just one lucky guy who get to play in NBA in an era that there are no other great players. I doubt he can survive in the 90s where all those amazing players were playing.
wow. a lot of kobe hatred. the guy is easily one of the best ever. even phil jackson said he has never seen anything like the 81 point game. and he coached MJ. this isn't tmac we're talkin about here. it's kobe. the guy plays unreal. and only his age slows him down. Shaq went to miami and played with DWade. He didn't do it alone. who the hell did kobe have on the lakers? you could see how dominant they became when Gasol arrived. Shaq still had to play with a premiere scorer in order to get anywhere. g@dd@m u ppl for making me defend that douche kobe. but sometimes the facts are staring you straight in the face. the guy is a guaranteed HOFer.
It is about having the credentials to make the claim. Someone like John Salmons can't proclaim to the media "Its On Me". He can if he wants, but it'd be like who's this chump trying to take the reigns. Kobe is qualified to do it. As was McGrady, just his execution while saying it was, as usual, very shaky. But when you have the HARDWARE...you are allowed to put a hard knee and sharp elbow into someone's jaw and skull at the same time cuz its what a "competitor" does....and plus our team is too NICE. McGrady an Yao and Battier should have the FIERCENESS of Kobe...therefore at the end of all that, he's a good guy... Of course Derek Fisher has the same number of championships as Kobe. His takedown of Luis Scola made him a sorry punk, not some celebrated competitor. The only difference is one did it sneaky, the other was in the open. "but, see thats what SEPARATES Kobe, having the smarts to do it --" And it never stops. That reasoning can go on all year all decade long.
What I think zoid (hater) is trying to say, I think, is what has Kobe done within his skillset and physical ability that made him more unique and transcendent from other great players? As in, all in all Kobe's play appears similar to the generic 2 guard style of play in the league. Not that much separation aesthetically from him and the next guy. Just that he's getting much much better accomplishment out of his efforts. What is so "trademark" about Kobe from other great players? I think the Kobe legacy is from his young years he dared take on the greats of the game. And he had a lot of early success at a young age. The "halfro" Kobe had "streetball swag" that "ballers" could relate to. Before the rule changes for palming, he had a lot of crossover dribble ability like the good ball handling point guards of the league. He was the young guy doing it for the ESPN generation like Iverson. And its carried over from there I also think he's one of the best baseline/reverse dunk players to ever play the game. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uW5iQ16Nmx4&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hUdp1QIa3G0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sPqWfogEDgM&feature=related Though I can't stand the Kobe guy, there ya go.
Kobe is easily the hardest worker in NBA ever. He has great physical ability, but far from greatest. He's arguably the most skilled player in the NBA ever.
We'll never know because it didn't get that far. Recall that Kobe decided to pay the woman off instead of taking the case to trial. Only Kobe and the woman know what actually happened that night. Most are very dismissive of the woman since the media made her out to be a golddigging slut (when even a cursory examination of the whole "7 semens" fiasco reveals it to be a fabrication). The facts of the case show Kobe to, at the very least, be a liar when brought into questioning (only reneging when confronted with evidence), so it is certainly in the realm of possibility that he raped that girl. I think he did, because not only did he pay the woman off but he admitted (in so many words) that the sex was not consensual.
Uhhh you can't just pay someone and make a criminal trial go away. The criminal trial was dropped because of the accusers unwillingness to testify. There was never a 7 semen fiasco, it was true that another mans semen was found in her panties that she gave to investigators the day after the alleged incident. The accuser filed a civil suit before the trial was even scheduled, in these cases a person in kobe's position is more apt to pay the accuser and make the situation go away then prolong it. This is very common in civil cases. Quote of kobe admitting "in not so many words" that he did it? The only true thing you have stated was the fact that the only people who know if the rape happened are kobe and the accuser.
Let me stop you right there, Kobe's clutch shooting is overrated. He shot well the last 2 years, but for his career, his clutch shot is awful. I can only assume that he got better because he had so much practice. Other than that, you are pretty spot on. I doubt he has a few more years left though. He can definitely still play, but he won't be mentioned with Lebron and other elite players very soon.
this is a two way street, just as much as Kobe needed Shaq, Shaq also needed Kobe Uhm? There this one guy, Iverson, heard of him? How about T-Mac, Tim Duncan, Garnett, Ray Allen? Saying Kobe won all the championships on his own is stupid. He would've gotten no way without Fisher or Shaq or Gasol. Just look at the year Shaq left. But to say that he piggybacked on Shaq to get his championships is just ridiculous. Okay, there was the incident where the reffed practically got them the last championship, but he definitely contributed to a major part of the first two. I don't respect Kobe as a human being, but I give him his props for the things he did on the court.
That's because there has only been one 81-game in the history of basketball. No one has ever anything like the 100 point game either. And what Coach would bash the leading scorer on the team? Still, good job by Kobe.
Agreed, it's amazing how quickly he's broken down since then, maybe if he had help earlier in his career like kobe, probly wouldn't have endured so many injuries from having to carry so much of the load.
did he not learn from mclazy? the old kobe that takes all the shots and not pass and trust in his teammates has been rearing its ugly head the last month or so and will be their doom if he doesnt get it together quick
