Again, Jordan wouldn't talk or play pee-pee games, he would just score 56 and smoke a cigar.

Kobe wants a challenge? He should try opening his mouth without being a douche...

Can he score 38 points? Sure. But can he score 38 points on any given night that he wants too? He'd have to average 38 points per game to convince me that.

This issue kinda underlines how dumb the scoring title is. He could easily score 38 points on Sacramento -- if he puts his own scoring ahead of the team's interest in playing efficiently. The scoring title has something to do with how talented the player is at scoring the ball, but just as much to do with how that team's offense is structured, and how much it may rely on a particular player to make it work. The scoring title might be a feather in the cap for the player, and I'm sure the franchise appreciates having a player who is good at scoring, but I doubt the franchise is hoping to heap so much of their offense on one guy that they put him in a position to win that title.

If Durant was only after the scoring title he would have made it IMPOSSIBLE for Kobe to have a chance. We all know Durant is now a btter scorer than Kobe. So whatever yes kobe probably could have scored 38 against the Kings but I think Durant going all out for the scoring title each year vs Kobe, Durant wins it 9 times out of 10.

True. Durant did sit a recent 4th quarter even though he had 32 at the end of the 3rd.

big big time kobe fan here and he's just being petty. i know you can drop 38 but you still gotta go out and do it. don't try to take the glory away from Durant. it's disrespectful and dismissive. I'd call kobe a penis but frankly i don't want to insult mine.

Humble Kobe. This is why I like Durant. If he played for the rockets and won 2 or 3 rings he might would eclipse Hakeem for me as my favorite player. Maybe... And its not happening anyways.

Kobe shot 7-12, 18 points in that Spurs game. If he really wanted scoring title, he could have doubled the shots, managed 11 more points in that game and he'd win the scoring title now.

Some haters are just hilarious. First they said Kobe couldn't win anything so he's gonna ballhog for a meaningless scoring title. Now Kobe proved them wrong and it's because Kobe isn't capable to do it.

The guy had 62 points in 3 quarters, outscored the entire Mavs team who're also the best team in the league. 62 was his personal best and he might not be able to repeat it for the rest of the career, yet he said no to Phil when Phil asked if he wanted to play in 4th.

Let truth be told. There's one scoring title every year. 80+ points was only seen once in entire NBA history at that time (his own 81 points game was later). He could also be the only person in NBA history to outscore a team in an entire game. And he didn't go for it. What makes scoring title so special? 20 years from now, people will still talk about Kobe's 81 points game butI doubt TMac's 2 scoring titles will be mentioned. Kobe's all about winning a championship. He's not gonna beg for some personal award like LeChoke.

"Just now I asked him, 'How old would you have been for you to want to play in this game?' and he said he wouldn't have," Brown said. "He said he was [27] and playing against Dallas and he had 62 [points] and Dallas had 61 after three quarters and he said Phil [Jackson] asked him if he wanted to come back in and he told Phil, 'No.'

I don't think anyone is arguing that Kobe isn't great and one of the best scorers to ever play the game. He has had an amazing career and the things he is doing at his age is a testament to his greatness.

and about him sitting during his 81 point game, he was struggling with his image as a ballhog/rapist and someone who puts his personal stats over team success that whole season. maybe he even thought he would have the opportunity to do it again. maybe he thought it wasnt good for his public image. maybe he was exhausted. who knows? I do remember him saying smthg about being embarrassed about it.

i personally wish he would have broken or matched wilt's record because the way Kobe got his points and the fact that his team needed them to win the game was just amazing.

However, talking about how he could have won something if he wanted to is really petty. Durant got the scoring title and that's with Westbrook shooting a good clip and the Thunder finishing with a great record. It isn't as if Durant hogged all the shots and went Tyreke on his team.

But the fact that he even has to make a petty comment about it shows that he's a little upset for not getting it.

of course he could score 38. but i'm not sure he would've done it had he played. if 2 kings double him all game knowing he's going to shoot every time and the game itself is meaningless, he would have a hard time.

I'm pretty sure Durant was trying super hard to get that scoring title too. It seemed that way when he was shooting his team out of close games the last week.
