let's look at lebron and kobe v. the better defenders/teams last year lebron 09-10 lakers (artest): 31.5ppg, 4rpg, 9apg, 50% 09-10 houston (battier/ariza): 28ppg, 5.5rpg, 6.5apg, 49% 09-10 boston (team D): 36.5ppg, 6.5rpg, 8.3apg, 52% 09-10 charlotte (gerald wallace): 22.5ppg, 5.8rpg, 7apg, 52% kobe 09-10 cavs: 33ppg, 6rpg, 6apg, 35% 09-10 charlotte (gerald wallace): 15.5ppg, 3.5rpg, 4.5apg, 33% 09-10 houston: 24.5ppg, 4.8rpg, 4.8apg, 41% 09-10 boston: 19ppg, 3rpg, 6apg, 40%
8 out of the 10 games you mentioned from the matchups above came after Kobe suffered the finger and knee injuries. After those injuries he didn't even hit 80% of his free throws. He wasn't the same player that started out scorching hot from October till December
October till December is one month of games, and the numbers Kobe put up during that time were a statistical anomaly given his career numbers. He is actually remarkably consistent year-to-year, shooting in the mid-40% range at high volume. Also, Kobe's finger is still injured and his knee probably won't heal 100% given his age, so it's not like those aren't factors should they play one-on-one now. At which point Lebron would absolutely slaughter him.
so how do you explain the absurd low free throw percentage from December till till the playoffs? thats a statistical anomaly too? He has always hovered around 84%
Thank you. This argument is absurd but I do wish the NBA would add a 1 on 1 competition to the All Star game as opposed to all the other BS events. Winner gets $100,000 donated to his favorite charity. You could even break it down into PG vs. PG, wings vs. wings and big men vs. big men.
This argument is definitely absurd and people trying to bring stats in this argument to prove a point is laughable. I like that idea but the people who we all want to play one on one probably wouldn't agree to it due to pride.
Interesting interpretation of what went down. Did Bryant also quit when his team had homecourt advantage and a chance to put Boston at the brink of elimination? I don't recall.
No he didn't quit. His team might have been better off if he had, because he did put up one of the worse offensive performances in the history of the NBA playoffs in game 7 of the Finals.
he's in the right line of thinking. even JVG said kobe was having one of the worst offensive games he's seen in the finals and nearly jeopardized his team. he said that midway in the 3rd quarter. i'm sure JVG knows what the hell he is talking about.
oh really? Lakers were down 3-2 heading into LA and he said this... I'm paraphrasing... "Through 5 games of the NBA finals Kobe Bryant has hands down been the MVP...he has an appropriate amount of trust in his teammates" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vg9MNYYY97w&feature=related
There's no need for JVG to backtrack on those comments and look foolish for backing someone who was getting murdered in the media for "letting his team lose in game 5" and then say " one of the worst offensive games he's seen in the finals and nearly jeopardized his team"
i was referring to GAME 7. JVG was questioning kobe's offensive production in GAME 7 and only game 7. i wasn't referring to game 6 or the games before.
