Right, I didn't really understand that part. Sasha knows English, so why speak Italian to him? Earlier in the film, Kobe was speaking English to Sasha, and now he decides to bust out the Italian, while only saying two numbers. Doesn't make any sense to me. It seems to me that he was just doing that for the camera, just so he can show that he's cultured.
Wow, I'm no Kobe fan, but this is just pure haterade being poured on your part. For one, Kobe speaks more than 2 words of Italian because he grew up for a while in Italy. Just because he didn't present a report read in Italian for us doesn't mean he can't speak the language. As for why he's speaking in Italian to Youthechick, it could be an inside joke. Sasha played basketball in Italy. And no offense, but I get the feeling Kobe's not impressed by your polished COLLEGE diploma. Kobe speaking a bit more than a couple of words in Italian (he's admitted in the past he's rusty with it since he doesn't use it daily) : <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/_L6nVq2jspU&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/_L6nVq2jspU&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Kobe knows Italian. He's spoken more than two words publicly on several occasions. His dad played pro ball in Italy, so they lived there for a while when he was young. That's where he picked up the language. You could probably find some articles on this...i thought it was common knowledge though. NOTE: nevermind, just read DoD's post.
Forgot about his dad playing over there, makes sense, but either way, I have zero respect for a man of his caliber. And we actually do share something in common, we both dont give a damn about the others achievements in life (and thanks for ruining my chest pumping parade after my college graduation last night!) I think I will stick with showing no respect for him, regardless of which language he is speaking.... "A man who strays from the mother of his children in order to lust for the hand of a wench, proves that he is no man at all." -George Washington (He hates Kobe, as well )
I'm probably in the minority here, but I'm understanding more about Kobe watching this. Unfortunately I don't know how much is "for the camera" and how much is natural. I never knew he enjoyed playing the physical game (elbows to the neck notwithstanding) - he's commenting repeatedly about 80's basketball and how much more contact and physical it was. He seems to think that was more fun.
It is only fun to his when he is getting away with it and nobody is being physical back. DoD, dont let this ESPN Kobe Propaganda Movie set your opinion of the man. He knew he was mic'd, he knew 50 camaras were on him, he even editted his own documentary! How can you tell the true character of a known liar when the liar is the one making his own film? Its rediculous to even think this is the "real" Kobe Bryant. The REAL Kobe throws knees and elbows at Shane Battier because he is mad that good denfense was played on him. The REAL Kobe punches defenders in the face because of a self-diagnosed "Nervous Tick". The REAL Kobe took 12 years to get his first MVP because sports writers outside of LA can't stand the arrogant punk.
its funny .i went over to lakersground.net to see what lakers fans were saying about the movie and its almost exactly all the same comments here.. most hated it and thought it was boring and FAKE!
Yeah, you're probably right, but at the same time, I tried to go into it with an open mind about him as a basketball player.
Should have been, "Kobe - 'Doin Jailtime" I would have paid for 50 different camera angles for that one.
I thought it was much too boring for the people involved and the type of promotion it got. What I got from it was, to me, the rape trial tarnished his creditibility more than I originally perceived. And, he's just too straight up a basketball personality and not a people personality like Charles Barkley or even Lebron.
all my current kobe hatred aside... from a cinematic perspective, jesus this was awful. i cant believe this is the approach they took for a kobe documentary. film one random regular season game with 30 different cameras, then have him come in and do a commentary track over it? are they kidding? how did spike lee possibly think this was a good idea? 1.5 hrs of complete worthlessness. kobe is definitely an interesting/complex/mysterious enough character to be the subject of a great documentary, and it's a shame how little effort and creativity was put into this. go see "Tyson", people.
It is called "Shane doin' work" <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/x4aDM5d27_w&hl=pl&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/x4aDM5d27_w&hl=pl&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
I didn't bother checking out the Kobe infomercial, but I'm surprised to hear it only consists of ONE game. Really? From the commercials it seemed like they followed him for a few months or even a whole season.
It was way to long should have been an hour MAX. Way to many damn camera changes made me sick at points watching it. And it would have been way better if it was over multiple games not just the boring ass spurs.
I caught the last 30 minutes and agree with most of the other opinions. This could have been put together in a couple of hours. Spike Lee is a lazy mofo.
The movie was only useful if you hadn't watched basketball before. Kobe was pointing out things that are obvious to most basketball fans. The Spurs are a good defensive team....they like corner threes...stuff like that.
