Kobe is making sure that nobody can ever pass him on this record.

I think that was one of , if not the most empty 40+ point games I've ever seen. Its just sad at this point.

Frankly I find it hilarious. Pau and Dwight copped so much crap cause Kobe is held in a different regard over there. Without them he's shooting 35% on a 1-9 team on a fast-track to the lottery.

Kobe is the 2nd leading scorer shooting 37%. Harden is the 3rd leading scorer at 38%.

    *******.

And Dwight still gets crapped on by the media, so frustrating.

This needs more attention...people seem to ignore Harden's piss poor shooting pretty easily.

    Yeah, a "great" game... 15-34 FGM-A 3-12 3PM-A 11-16FTM. Take away the superstar-freethrows and he's right around 34 shots for 35 points. 25% 3P. And dont forget -34 and the team lost by 21.

I really hope such a game will never be considered "great" by anyone. Any NBA player can take a ridiculous amount of shots to get many points, that alone doesnt mean he had a great game.

Klay Thompson's game some days ago against the Lakers can be considered great. 14-18 FG, 5-7 3P, 8-9FT. 41 points overall and +24 rating, the team won by 23.

Don't mistake "many points due to shooting as much as possible I dont care about teammates, winning or passing" with actual greatness, which means players helping their team win. FYI: That does include taking a paycut when you are that close to playing in a wheelchair. ;)

What's the big deal? He's making sure the Rox win games. No one else on this team can create shots, so he's got to do everything. If it continues into next year then it's a problem but right now without Harden we're a 5-5 team and not a contender. tldr: Rox need a PG who can create.

Someone did the math on the Mavs forum; Dirk vs Kobe misses:

I wonder how long Dirk would have to play, maintaining his career attempts per game and FG percentage, to miss as many as Kobe. Til he's 45?
If Kobe were to retire before his next game:
Dirk is currently 3,204 misses behind (13,421 vs. 10,217)

If Dirk continued to shoot 47.7% (his career avg) and 18 FGA - he'd miss 8.7 shots per game and it would take him 369 more games, 4.5 more seasons if he played all 82 games of every season

So he'd catch up to Kobe in about Feb of 2018 (game 33 of the 2017-2018 season), at which point Dirk would be 39 years old

If Dirk continued at this year's rate of 52.9% of 15 FGA, he'd miss only 7 FGA per game, it'd take him 458 games to make up the difference or 5.6 full seasons shooting 15 FGA. In which case, it'd take him until game 16 of the 2019-2020 season-- or about February of 2020 when Dirk would be 41 years old.

If Kobe finishes his contract (this year and next) shooting the same FGA/percentage

Kobe is shooting 39.3% and 24 FGA per game, missing 14.6 shots per game. If he only finishes this year and next and plays all 82 games of each (and then immediately retires instead of becoming a backup somewhere else), he'll add 2,292 misses to his record, leaving him thousands of shots ahead of every other basketball player to ever live at 15,713.

At even the most conservative rate of Dirk shooting 47.7% on 18 FGA, it'd take Dirk 637 games to get there, or 7.7 full seasons or March of 2022. At which time, Dirk would be a very tired 43 years old (almost 44)
