I thought you couldn’t combine TPEs.

Omari Spellman salary would fit in our current 3M TPE.

I don’t think you can do that.

    TPEs cannot be combined.

We are already up against a hard cap.

My guess is a future 2nd and a TPE that we most likely will never use. Like all of the other TPEs

    You can't combine TPE's.

They are of a set value.

I expect they get some asset in return , maybe a protected 2nd along with a TPE.

Last time we engaged with the Knicks for a S&T deal (Marcus Camby), we fleeced them out of 2 2RP, which turned into Nick Johnson and Montrezl Harrell. So there’s hope.

It be funny if the rockets sent westbrook for a TPE real quick.

@aelliott Can the Rockets absorb a player’s salary in exchange for Rivers? I guess it’s not possible since they’re hardcapped.

How much space under the hard cap do the Rockets have? About $2mill to add a player? Omari Spellman would fit into that nicely?
Does he fit as 3rd/4th string C? Probably worth a flyer if we can convince them to do it.

More likely the S&T = a 2nd round pick and a TPE (that will be too large to use unless we dump salary first)

They can as long as they are below $139m at the conclusion of the deal.

Remember though that we are hardcapped for the entire year. We will need to leave some room for moves during the season when injuries occur.

Remember that the trade exception is good for a year and the hardcapped status ends at the conclusion of this season. We could use it next offseasons if it makes sense for us.

So what's NYK incentive to do a sign and trade with us? Why would they give us a pick rather than signing Rivers directly?

Makes sense since we still have 4 TEs from deals we made last season (Capela, Jordan Bell, Nene, Greenlight).

I'm wondering if that trade NYK made with the Twolves had more to do with dumping the salary of Davis, getting the 2nd rounder or taking on the young prospects. Spellman could have just been a throw in considering how much front court depth the Knicks have. I also read a rumor that New York was a potential 3rd team to help facilitate a Hayward sign and trade to the Hornets. If I'm understanding correctly they would need to move a player to stay under the cap if they were to take on Batum's contract.

I doubt we get Spellman out of this, but he would be a really nice fit on the Rockets. Decent young player. He can stretch the floor and we'd actually have a backup C while Cousins takes his time coming back. He can play pf too.
