We hold the keys to get Melo to the Knicks. We hold the keys to getting Denver under the lux tax. What is the cost? Anthony Randolph and a future pick from the Knicks and Nene from the Nugs.

We could have had Randolph but Morey turned it down.

Jonathan Feigan writes: - "The Knicks wanted their pick back for Randolph and the Rockets were not going to give them that since it is not lottery protected beyond the first pick. The Knicks don't appear headed back to the lottery, but you never know how an injury and a few bouncing ping pong balls could unexpectedly change things. Daryl Morey said a few years ago that he would never trade a pick without lottery protection. That apparently includes trading someone else's pick."

Daryl Morey declined the Knicks' offer to send the Rockets Anthony Randolph in exchange for the return of full rights over New York's 2011 draft pick. New York also traded Houston its 2012 pick outright but that pick is protected for the top five selections.

Looks like a dud move by Morey now.

i think they are interested in moving the very pick they will acquire for for randolph. so any of those teams can make conditional and lotto-protect it this year, maybe top ten protected next, etc...

not sure how impressed denver will be with that but i guess the worst case scenario is that the knicks end up with a pick for a guy they dont play anyway.
