Knicks need more than 1 perimeter defender. They have Shumpert but their lack of another perimeter defender was a major weakness for them last year. Melo had to guard the opposing team's best player if that player was a SF ie. Paul George, Lebron. And also its not that they don't have a plan, they just don't have any cap space and any flexibility to make any moves. They are really in a terrible spot, not good enough to be elite and with no flexibility to improve.

Isn't this a violation of the moratorium or does that not apply to pre-amnestied players?

Why? He's brought in Dennis Rodman and Stephen Jackson before.

    Nope.

He wasn't the coach when Rodman joined the team.

"Taking over as coach of the Spurs in 1996, Popovich is the longest tenured coach in both the NBA and all Big Four sports leagues."

    But he was the GM.

"In 1994, Popovich returned to San Antonio as the general manager and Vice President of Basketball Operations after current owner Peter Holt purchased the team."

"In the 1993–1994 NBA season, Rodman joined a Spurs team which was built around perennial All-Star center David Robinson, with a supporting cast of forwards Dale Ellis, Willie Anderson and guard Vinny Del Negro?"
