I was thinking of this also. NY is just about the harshest city you can be in if you're a professional athlete with motivation, health and media problems. Not to mention, McGrady is so sensitive it won't be long before he is taking shots at the fans and the sports writers there.
That's what i'm thinking. Though I don't think New York would mortgage their future stud in Wilson Chandler for a shell of his former self Tmac.
Hmmm, this sounds familiar....I think someone posted some inside info about the knicks not to long ago..... :grin:
Would anyone take back Eddy Curry AND Jared Jeffries' contracts if they came with BOTH David Lee and Gallinari? You could let Scola walk after that and come back next year with a line up like this: PG: Brooks / Lowry SG: Ariza / Budinger SF: Gallinari / Battier PF: Lee / Landry C: Yao / Andersen Bench: Curry, Jeffries, Taylor Then Curry, Jeffries, and Battier's deals would end in 2011. You could use that cap space to sign Landry and Brooks to long term deals. The whole deal would be a total dump for the Knicks, but with that much 2010 cap space, they could probably sign James, Wade, and Bosh, then fill in the rest with vets looking for a ring. They could have a starting lineup of Wade, McGrady, James, Bosh, and any Luc Longley stiff at center.
Keep in mind that just because Tmac's agent and the Knicks are meeting, doesn't necessarily mean that we are making a Trade with the Knicks where we are getting back their players. The Knicks could always be used as a "3rd team" in any trade.
If we get david lee all we need would be david west and blair and we could have a starting lineup of 5 undersized 4's.
(sigh) Which is why a third team in the same deal could be involved or a separate deal could go down to even out the roster. If McGrady and his agent are meeting with Tmac then you'd have to think the Knicks and Morey are talking.
if no trade goes down we might do a buyout, then tmac could sign with the knicks for the rest of the season. i don't know why the knicks would want him. they're just starting to emerge from the darkness...
If we are doing a deal with NY then lets involve Miami. This is what it should look like. Rockets get: Gallinari Jermaine Oneal Mobleys expiring contract Knicks get: Mcgrady Ariza Brian Cook Heat get: D. Lee N. Robinson E. Curry After the trade we sign Von Wafer to be our starting SG. The Rockets get 32.5 Mil off the books at the end of the year to offer a max contract to a top free agent. The Knicks would do this because they would dump 28.6 mil at end of the season and they get a perfect role player (Ariza) to go along side Lebron or whoever they sign to a max deal. The Heat get Robinson to put along side Wade in the backcourt which would be very entertaining to watch and a 20-10 guy with Lee. They also get younger and all they are giving up is Oneal. If you dont think this trade will work then check it on the trade machine. It works and everybody is happy. :grin:
Not really, because due to the Knicks cap position T-mac actually represents the difference being able to sign two max players instead of one. They could care less about T-mac the player, they just want his contract.
The only way we get one of their assets is if we take jeffries or Curry. I'm not certain I want any of what they have. Taking Harrington, Gallinari, and Jeffries wouldn't be a terrible deal. I'm not sure how good Gallinari is, though, but we won't get him.
I don't think Gallinari is someone we need to be pursuing. He's a nice luxury, but he's turning into an incredibly one dimensional player(3pt specialist) and frankly I think he thinks he's a lot better than he actually is. He will be a headache soon for whatever team he plays for(see every other overpaid 3pt specialist in the league) and we aren't in dire need of a 3 pt specialist right now anyway. I would rather have a wing player who is maybe a little less accurate from 3pt line but plays defense. The Knicks don't have enough pieces we need anyway. Lee would be nice for a one year rental but he's too expensive to retain long term with what we are paying Yao, Landry and Scola(unless we let Scola go but I would rather have Luis). Wilson Chandler is decent, but he does a lot of the same things we already have on this roster. Al Harrington is another we don't really need. The only way McGrady goes to NY in a trade is if a 3rd team is involved(Philly?)
Reasons why they would talk... 1) Wants to be first in line for the 2010 McGrady "sweepstakes". {unlikely} 2) Wants to see how well McGrady can play since 7 minutes per wasn't enough {why would they go to the agent instead of Chicago} 3) Wants to be first in line for the McGrady buyout. {possible but I'm not sure what signing McGrady would do though he might sell some tickets} 4) Wants assurances that if they trade for him that they will give them strong consideration on resigning with them once the season is over - assuming everything goes well. {more likely}
