Amare is garbage until proven otherwise. He is a horrendous defender, a poor rebounder and has no post game.
Give me Shumpert and all draft picks and we might be close to a deal. When he expires in 3 years, along with Lin and Asik, we can grab Kevin Love... Not the right move for the Rockets, but boy pairing Amare with Lin and Harden would be ridiculous... RIDICULOUS...
Yet, he has had seasons of 25 and 8 with 2 blocks... One in 10-11 in fact... And long playoff runs averaging 30 and 10 with blocks... A career 22 PER... COMPLETE garbage...
Even if they traded Amar'e for expirings, they aren't going to have any cap space for 3 years. So they need to stick with him if they can't trade him for solid players.
Amare wasn't 30 years old coming off yet another injury when he had seasons of 25/8/2 If folks thought he was going to get 25/8/2 and a per of 22 NOW... there would be a line to trade for him..... but there isn't.....
Nah. The lack of a line to trade for him is (a) because Dolan will veto any deal that doesn't get him significant value in return and (b) because Amare is uninsured teams won't want to give back significant value. Take the proposed trade to Toronto. Dolan vetoed and Toronto would've declined - it's those 2 factors which make him untradeable. The weird thing is that next year he'll be much more tradeable because he will 'only' have one further season, and so will be worth a shot for some team. If it doesn't work out for them, they can always use his expiring the following year to get something else back, or get themselves into prime FA territory.
So Melo finds himself in the same situation as Denver, except with not as great role players, and not as good of a coach...I guess this superstar ganging up doesnt really always work...
If Amare accepts a role off the bench for the Knicks, he'd still be an albatross contract but he'd help their team nicely. An Amare/Rasheed/Kurt Thomas/Camby frontcourt off the bench is good at any age. And its assuming Amare isnt in "Jermaine O'Neal" territory decline. It'd be an interesting risk if the Rockets could somehow get Amare. He'd be a nice fit. Though the Rockets reportedly declined a trade YEARS ago from the Suns for cuz they'da had to decline giving Amare a physical to take him, thought it was still too risky. And that was a younger Amare. Amare isnt the most likable guy, just slightly better than Carmelo, but he's the guy that took the risk to sign with NY to get them back on the map. Carmelo should be respectful to that, not selfish. Though its a matter of how their games fit together.
Amare took the "risk" because none of the contenders with stars (like the Heat and Bulls) wanted anything to do with him and the Knicks blew everyone else out of the water by offering $100 million. Some "risk".
I actually think this would be good idea, especially Stat for 2Pat. We have some presence at the post (Asik) and guards, wing that can ball handle and score. Stat would be a nice pairing.
Why would any team trade for an Amare who is not insurable, has $65 million of guaranteed money coming, and realistically is a very old man physically? Much less, why would the Rockets kill their flexibility for the next 3 years to bring in that ancient relic?
lol no thanks. The biggest problem with getting Amare is trading for him without affect the cap. We can sign another max player this summer. We have no contracts to trade, outside of Harden, to keep that cap space (; personally, I'd rather give Parsons a raise with the cap space).
