Those other teams have legit superstars, while the Rockets have none. Count Yao, and his injury history, and it's hard for the Rockets to 'take risks.' If a Caron Butler doesn't work out for Dallas, hey, they still have Dirk. An Iggy doesn't live up to expectations or Yao isn't healthy, the Rockets are doomed
Or, we are going to laugh at how Scrubby J.Hill became a All-star player. Some teams give up on high draft picks soon. This would be another low-risk hopefully high-reward for the Rox.
Except that we don't need a PF. So would be stupid to go get something we are set in. Kind of like what the Texans do with drafting a DL every year with the 1st round pick
i think we should just sit and let mcgrady expire. try to move shane so we have a shot at a big name in free agency. Core players... Brooks Wade Ariza Scola/Landry Yao
Not really, it seems the Rockets strategy is to collect young talent any ways As for the Texans...it's because they never work out. Okoye and Travis have been busts so far...so it's kind of different. Any ways, Rockets have room for one more like Hill and Harrington. At least it would make some of these guys trade assets next year.
I think something like McGrady/Cook for Hughes/Darko and one of either Hill/Chandler is within reason for both sides. We get under LT by taking back about 3m less than we're sending out and they get McGrady while only giving up one prospect and Hughes/Darko, who they don't want anyways. If nothing else, their smaller expirings would be easier to move before Thursday... That might be the best we can do.
I don't really get into proposing trades very often. The last time I think I actually proposed one it was when I suggested we trade Hakeem (once it was clear he was going to be traded) for "scrubby" Jeff Foster who couldn't get consistent PT in Indy because of a log-jam, when rumor got out that the Rockets were talking with them (Indy). IIRC, some people laughed at it then. Instead they were talking about "proven vets" like Derek McKey or Sam Perkins, and some people demanded that the Rockets refuse to part with Hakeem for anything less than "future star" Johnathan Bender, who at the time seemed like the next Kevin Garnet. Right about now the last, broken down year of Hakeem for Jeff Foster as he was coming into his prime looks like it would have been a pretty good deal. It seems to me that the Rockets will be hard pressed to sign both Landry and Scola this off season. A deal like this allows them to look towards a sign and trade whichever one they decide to do so.
Why do people at like we have Scola and Landry lock up for 5 years.and that they would somehow play for peanuts.
PF will be a need, because Scola should have been traded this year. I'll keep saying it, time to start Landry and see what we can get for Luis. I know one of these conteders would love to have Scola/(Battier) and would give up some of their young talent also. And Yes, it seems to me the Rockets are just trying to stockpile as much young talent as possible.
You know what guys, i am sorry but, did any of you happen to notice how the Rockets were one Yao Ming away from a championship last season? Are you seriously telling me that by adding a couple of decent players would not at least get us to a conference finals if not the finals? Is there no one out there who sees what i see?
From Local 2 KPRC: Sources: Knicks and Rockets Talking; Rockets Not Commenting NBA Trade Deadline is Thursday POSTED: Sunday, February 14, 2010 Houston -- The NBA trade deadline arrives later this week and in Houston all eyes are on Tracy McGrady. While the Rockets organization is not commenting on any potential move regarding Tracy McGrady, two league sources told KPRC Local 2 February 12 and again Sunday night that McGrady, who is in Chicago, is preparing for a trade to the New York Knicks. One source, who is very close to the McGrady camp, told KPRC Local 2 Friday that McGrady was prepared to travel to New York by the "middle of this week". Sunday night the New York Times also reported talks were underway between Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey along with Donnie Walsh and Arn Tellem and that both sides were attempting to get a deal done without a third team involved. Another NBA league source confirmed with KPRC Local 2 that talks were held Sunday but it was unclear if the two sides were close to striking a deal. The NBA trade deadline is Thursday. The Rockets resume play at home Tuesday against the Utah Jazz.
NY has a lot of expirings. If we get Jordan Hill plus expirings for T-Mac, what it means is, we get Jordan Hill, we get to keep everybody we have (re-sign Scola, Lowry, etc.), plus we can sign somebody with the MLE. Also, we'll have a relatively low team salary, meaning we will have some flexibility to take back salary in future deals. It's not as exciting as Iggy/Dalembert or Butler/Haywood, but we couldn't make those happen on our terms, we weren't willing to lose our other core players to get them. If this is the best we could do, it really isn't a bad outcome, at all. And hey, we're also looking at some kind of first round pick, quite possibly a low lottery pick.
