I was responding to someone who said that he'd prefer to just sit on McGrady's contract and let it expire. My point was that a New York deal was better than NO DEAL. Those were the only two options with respect to my response. Of course, if there is a better offer, the Rockets will take it. Again, it would be a good COST-SAVING move for Les Alexander. Depending on the combination of players involved, the Rockets could get under the luxury tax and save anywhere from $10-14M. If a Jordan Hill or a Wilson Chandler were involved, that would be gravy. Not Houston's first choice, but definitely better than no deal at all, as a fallback option.
I guess J.Hill is the best we can get for Tmac...i'm warming to the idea. Was a Top 10 player drafted, and Rockets have developed their young players well...
Does he work for the NY media? It all depends on what makes sence for Houston, of course NY want his contract more then who is not playing. They already confirmed that with taking a chance on him if LeBron and Wade is not available, but their goals would be both. Harrington and just about every other player outside of Lee or Gallinari wont even crack the Rockets rotation and they need rotation players atleast one of them. Gallinari and the rest expiring contracts. Also Wade said himself that Chicago 'is' a place 'if' one other FA joins him. So NY is the ones who would have to anny up.
McGrady for Hill + Harrington + Darko We take back almost $3M less in salary, Harrington/Darko are both expiring and we get our key asset in Hill. Not to mention, Harrington and Darko are still useful players. We could shake up our offensively-devoid starting lineup by playing Harrington at the three (moving Ariza to the two) and seeing if things can "click" between Adelman and Harrington. Best case scenario: we resign him for cheap and have one hell of a 3rd/4th option at our disposal. As for Darko, I wouldn't mind getting one last look at him before he tucks tail and runs home to Serbia. Sure, he sucks but he can be one hell of a post defender when he wants to be plus -- let's be honest -- he's a 7-footer on a team full of undersized bigs. Who knows, maybe Adelman can get through to him and find a use for him? Doubtful, I know, but I would be all for entering him in the rotation immediately and seeing if our defense around the basket improves. If not, bench him and stamp that passport. This type of deal definitely wouldn't be my first choice but it's better than just keeping him around and letting him expire.
Load up on young talent in exchange for salary next year imo. Maybe something like. Houston Gets: Hill Gallo T.Thomas Jeffries Curry NY Gets: Salmons Miller Cook Chicago Gets: McGrady
What would you do, considering that Yao's last season was the first season that he came close to being healthy for a considerble length of time in years? You know as well as anyone that he played about 50 games a season the previous three. I think I would be a bit shy about making another massive financial commitment (McGrady being one already), which is what going into LT land amounts to if we take on contracts that put us there, considering Yao's track record.
Honestly, trading with NY will be nothin more than a failure. They're best players play positions we dont have significant problems in. Al Harrington, battier & ariza all clog up our SF position. We already have scola & Landry playin PF/C with chuck hayes. Nate Robinson is WAY undersized similar too Brooks and Lowry. Larry Hughes is washed up and Duhon does nothin for us. Why the hell would we want Hill??? The Knicks are the laughing stock of the league. If Hill cant get any PT on the Knicks then we're selling ourselves short on getting him.
Still, if I'm Donnie Walsh, I don't think I'd give up ANY young talent. Getting Tracy McGrady would be nice, but it's certainly not a necessity for the Knicks. Why give up a lottery pick when you could just wait until the last second and hope the Rockets are desperate enough for luxury tax relief to just do McGrady for expiring contracts. I mean, Al Harrington is no slouch. I see a big-time game of "chicken" between Daryl Morey and Donnie Walsh. Two great GMs. This'll be an epic showdown.
I dunno why you guys keeping talking about getting David Lee, Gallo, or Wilson Chandler...the Knicks aren't trading any of them for TMac
Laughable. We make out like bandits in that trade. Not only do we get prospects in Hill and Thomas, but we get a stud like Gallo as well? And even though we have to take on the contracts of Jeffries and Curry, our outlook after 2011 looks pretty damn good. We could let Yao and Battier expire, leaving us with a core of Brooks, Landry, Hill, Gallo, and Bud to entice some FA in the offseason.
true, there might not be a reason to add even hill into the mix if it doesn't get them out of jeffries contract. would you take on jeffries to get hill?
It all depends on what our long term plan is. To me, if its just this current team and Yao, we arent contenders. We have to add a major piece to be contenders. If we arent going to do that, theres no reason not to take on Curry/Jeffries if we get a couple young pieces.
I don't know much about Jordan Hill, but what type of player could he turn out to be? I've been thinking he's a Ronny Turiaf type player but haven't followed Hill much at all.
