Can we trade with the Knicks for expiring contracts then turn around and use those contracts in another trade (or multiple trades)?

We can but what players from NY will you be able to flip to another team? Not many teams are lining up for what NY has on their roster. No way David Lee gets traded because no team would have his bird rights.

Harrington will probably get you something but not much...

Chicago should be the 3rd team involved...they had interest in trading Tyrus Thomas for Al Harrington..

this deal makes sense...(we can also throw in Brain Cook if the Bulls want more expiring contracts)

If they're expiring contracts then their value is the same as McGrady's would be... useful for matching salaries to get somebody's continuing deal off the books (Philly, Chicago, etc)

Maybe you can even flip Hill to somebody who needs a PF, or if you're confident in him, trade Scola or Landry instead.

imo to maximize the value of tmac would have been to either trade a package of tmac + Scola or Battier depending on where we are headed. Trade scola package if we are heading for contending next season and plan on getting a all star piece(amare+landry=bash brothers). Trade battier package if we are planning on getting a young that has a good chance at being an all star(SG would not be bad, if he blossoms early then we have a chance on making a run earlier than expected).

But that's the thing though. McGrady's expiring contract isn't just an expiring contract to a team like NY. If somehow T-Mac can produce for the NYK this year, they can sign him next year and help their cause with signing other free agents. T-Mac's name alone will put people in the building. New York has to do something that will give their fan base some faith.

Yeah, I know. They value him as a player, and really want to get him. Other teams aren't so enthusiastic and don't necessarily want to move over $20M in contracts all at once. So maybe splitting T-Mac's contract into two smaller expiring contracts and getting Jordan Hill as a sweetener is a good deal if we get it done early, then we can turn around and deal one of those expiring contracts (and maybe a little talent like Budinger or Hill) for somebody like Iggy when Philadelphia gets desperate.

Exactly. Win or Fail, Who does not want to see how McGrady plays atm? Seats will sell out.

I think a fair trade: Houston trades Tracy McGrady to the New York Knicks for Cuttino Mobleys' contract, Darko Milicic's expiring and Jordan Hill. New York gets the player they want. Houston gets its young asset in Hill plus two contracts that come off the books at the end of this season.

Do you think Walsh has seen something good about McGrady at Grover's place?

I like how it says the Knicks will decrease their wins by 6.

That wouldn't be bad, if Morey was to do that I think he would straight away do a 3 team trade so they don't risk ending up with some unneeded pieces.

I'm sure he has. T-Mac has had enough time where he SHOULD be at least faster than what he was when we saw him earlier than this year.

You have to remember that Walsh is basically putting his neck on the line for T-Mac. I'm not saying he'll lose his job over him but it could blow up in his face if he can't land someone. T-Mac is the key for their success for this off season.

I still believe McGrady can put up some solid numbers (18+, 5, 5), but I think they really need him to bring them to the playoffs. We know McGrady can do that, but I dont know about the first round. ;)

Well at the current standings, the Knicks are 6 games out from the eight spot. I'm not sure they can leapfrog 3 teams in 31 games. At least it would prevent the Jazz from getting the number one overall draft pick.

Well if there are "leftover" pieces it doesn't matter, as long as they are expiring contracts... you just let them run off the books.

NY wants to see if Tmac still has it. they know their options in free agency are going to be limited. they won't mind overpaying McG if he can still play. the best way to find that out is to get him now while they have a few weeks to play. it's a low cost quick look.

However, if they lose a recent lotto pick, it's no longer low cost.

I really hope Jazz do not get a top 10 pick so if McGrady indeed gets traded, I will be hoping for a playoff push. They seem really high on him for some reason...

That's why I think NY is trying to find a 3rd team. If they lose Hill or draft picks for a player that can't play then it's a bigger lost.
