McGrady's contract is Supposed to bring back what Morey wants. Everyone can apply there own criteria but Morey want's an asset/star and want's to avoid the poison pill attached to it. A Jordan Hill type of player is neither a star or an asset at this point. What Morey does know is the Knicks have a bunch of poison pills. If a David Lee/Gallinari/Chandler type of player is attached those poison pills become much easier to swallow.
I agree. Both teams have more on their mind like next season rather than what the trade looks like. At this point i assume McGrady will be traded, but what we are after and hoping might not be what is in stored. Than you have to jump to plan B). This would mean Scola and Lowry's contracts status is also in the air with NY, Miami, Chicago, Memphis, whoever having more to offer than 9 million of what we can offer just to keep McGrady. So planB no doubt is the alternative to tanking imo. We have pick 14 might as well allign yourself out for the future and get a good draft position assuming nothing else is available.
Toney Douglas would be a DM type player too. That guy plays HARD. If DM likes Jordan Hill and his chances of developing, I'm on board...
I don't see this deal happening. Who do the Rockets let go other than Garret Temple, don't you have to cut a few guys and you would still owe their salaries plus the new guys. Also, giving up your 8 pick Jordan Hill after less than a year would be an embarassment for Walsh, what if he turns into a solid player in a couple of years. Reminds me of Morey's move in trading Donte Greene for Artest, in retrospect I bet Morey would like a mulligan on that one. If I was Walsh, I would tell Arn Tellem, I'm interested in Mcgrady and would be willing to sign him for an amount in a buyout that would get the Rox out of LT territory. Maybe that's the best deal we can get for Mcgrady.
Yep. This season is not a failure, but it will be next season if something ain't done by the deadline.
I would agree that something needs to be done by the deadline, but it doesn't necessarily have to be an impact piece of taking on money. We could be a seller instead and I'd be okay with that.
i don't think donte gets this team to the 2nd round last year and he isn't exactly lighting it up yet either.
How 'bout this one: [rquoter] ... The Knicks, who face Oklahoma City tonight at Ford Center after blowing a 13-point lead in Houston, are hesitant about giving up a young player in the deal. Youth is what the Rockets are seeking, according to someone who has spoken to Morey. According to the source, Rockets general manager Daryl Morey is eager to get either rookie, Jordan Hill or Toney Douglas, in a Tracy McGrady deal. Neither Hill and Douglas is in the rotation and may not get in this season. Hill and Douglas are behind undrafted rookie Marcus Landry. ... [/rquoter] "My source who spoke with Daryl Morey" sounds like more than idle speculation to me.
Right. Its more about tempering the expectations as we go along. Straight setting for less. Early in the year it was "Trade T-MAC for CHRIS BOSH or Amare!" Now its Jordan Hill, a scrub and cap space. It could. If its just about the "or letting Scola expire", I dont see that being the case. They could let Cook, Hayes or Dorsey go.
The Kings are looking for another big man whether they trade Martin or not. Possibly Hill or one of the current Rockets PFs are swung over in a three way trade?
Sounds like idle speculation to me still if not dead. Look at the date of the article. Jan 11th was a long time ago. If Morey were so eager to get either Jordan Hill or Douglas a deal would have already been done by now. If Morey held out this long I'm pretty sure he wouldn't mind holding out till the end. One things for sure. He isn't that eager over Hill or Douglas.
I think this is just a back-up plan if the first plan fails what ever it is. Like somebody said: Might have to move from 'buyer' to 'seller'. Surely Morey's been busy well before the negotiation period opened up. Let's remember NY is also after Rubio. Perhapes they try to move Brooks some how to Minny and Rubio to NY for Minny's draft pick or something. That is really sketchy if you ask me. This would turn into Minny's draft pick and Lee/Chandler/Gallinari from this point forward for anybody not named Scola/Lowry, because NY can already offer more to them. Perhapes Minny ain't gonna wait untill after 2011 when the smoke settles for Rubio. This suggest Lee going to Minny with Brooks when we get their pick and Gallinari/Chandler+fillers for McGrady swaps somehow. This means taking on Curry/Jeffries is an attempt to be alligned out for Durant maybe! Who knows.
my trip to New York in March to see the Rockets play in MSG might get more interesting in the next few days....
