http://espn.go.com/new-york/nba/sto...e-mills-met-phil-jackson-coaching-possibility New York Knicks president and general manager Steve Mills met about two weeks ago with Phil Jackson about the possibility of Jackson becoming the team's next coach, sources told ESPN's Stephen A. Smith. The sources told Smith the message the Knicks received from Jackson was that he was not interested in the position at this time. Stephen A.: Jackson coaching the Knicks? Absolutely not. Can't rule out him running a front office. I don't think Dolan is wise enough to do it.
LOL, that's hilarious. Phil would never agree to coach a team unless they have by far the most talent in the league so he can ride them to a championship and take credit for it. He'd never take over an average or bad team because he wouldn't know what to do with them.
PJ is too old and worn out to coach. Probably wouldn't even travel for road games. Why would they hire him for the front office? It's embarrassing for the Knicks this leaked out. Saying they are desperate is being too kind.
Exactly. So your admitting Phil is a great coach that did what nobody else could do with those talented teams? If so, we agree. Apparently, BobbyTheGreat thinks Phil "rode" his superstars to a championship. Then again, the same guy thinks John Stockton's a better baksetball player than Kobe. I'll take his comments with a grain of salt moving forward
No, he "rode" his superstars to 11 championships after riding Walt Frazier to 2 championships as a player. I think it because it's obvious really.
PJ was a great coach. Denying that is just silly. Not even worth debating people who are that blind. Closing the sale 11 times with 3 very different teams is incredible. At the same time, PJ had a problem suffering fools. After joining the Lakers, he displayed some habits I strongly disliked. He was not good at making lemons out of lemonade. That was his weakness. But if you handed him the keys to a worthy auto, he could win the race for you.
Misconception. He did take a team with Smush Parker, Kwame Brown & Chris Mihm to the postseason in a very tough western conference. That team also pushed Phoenix to 7 games. Him along w/ Kobe willed that team.
Not to mention Kobe-Shaq got swept in the playoffs the year before Phil Jackson arrived. You can have all the talent in the world... Jeez, the Knicks are delusional. No way Jackson would have taken head coaching duties of that dysfunctional club.
The state of the Knicks is just sad. Just when you thought they could be a decent team in the east...they are 22-40. To compare them to the post championship years of the rockets.. Our overall record 781-647, and theirs: 683-745. Both teams have made the playoffs 10 times. We have only made it out of the first round 3 times, while they have made it out 6 times.
Much of this analysis is shallow, to put it kindly. How can one separate the success from the talent on the floor? It is almost impossible to do. Consider McHale. He arrived after coaching some miserable teams in Minny. His record, while not awful was certainly below average. Now McHale in the next 20-40 games is poised to become the winningest coach in Rockets history. Is he the greatest coach in Rockets history? Certainly not. For an exercise, why don't you take a look at Pop, considered to be one of the finest coaches in the NBA? How has his coaching career been impacted by Duncan, and the other two all-stars on his roster? So is Phil the greatest coach in NBA history? Or is he just the best at choosing the spots that he wishes to get involved in?
Scottie Pippen had started a total of like 50 games before Phil took over.... not sure it is entirely a strong argument on your part.
