I think you are completely wrong. Melo hurts their chance of getting a higher draft pick in a team that is 100% rebuilding. Melo stalls Porzingis development as Melo remains the number one option. Melo remains a huge distraction for the team. They aren't going to keep him. The longer they wait the worse off they will be.
Look elswhere? lol. The Knicks would GLADLY accept this. That would allow them to go back to Melo like "hey, Houston doesn't want you anymore. cleveland's not looking to make a move. either stay or we're trading you to the pelicans". Daryl Morey has absolutely no leverage in this. If NY holds on to him, this would be a PR DISASTER I'm sure the new GM does not want. The only person that holds the chips is Carmelo. His no trade clause dictates everything. The Knicks need to get rid him of him, but don't want a buyout. The Rockets want him but don't want to give up anything but Anderson. The longer this plays out the more pressure is both sides. I say the Rockets sit tight and force the Knicks to make a move
This definitely gives me reassurance that he's still coming here but you never know with the Knicks, they're so stupid that they can be unpredictable.
this makes me feel much better. It does sound like it's just a last minute manuver on the Knicks part for either PR purposes, or to see if they can get additional value. But it also sounds like this thing is greased to go, and going in another direction probably carries more risk than reward at this point. It also confirms that all of the leaks from players and their "crews" were legit; sounds like Melo has been told by the Knicks for weeks that he's going to Houston. It is also consistent with the Cat report that Melo is shopping for real estate. Bottom line, Melo has no relationship with this new GM. The knicks dont really want him to stay. He's got the no-trade clause. And Melo probably wants to go to a winning situation at this stage. That said, it's clear that the "no trade clause" doesn't guarantee he's traded to Houston. If he is indeed concerned about his image, he may expand the list of teams he's willing to play for.
It is going to be Leon Rose handling this and not Anthony. Something else to keep in mind is that Rose used to represent LeBron James and remains on good terms with James. Rose is a super agent, he isn't going to be bullied by the Knicks. Also, the Knicks #1 draft pick has Rose as an agent.... the Knicks need to be careful.
Any thoughts on Carmelo ending up in Cleveland and what that would do to our chances of resigning Chris Paul? Another sign and trade for Paul to Cleveland next year?
Really positive news. This is the first leak that Carmelo wants out. I'm guessing Rose or someone in his camp leaked this and is going to push the Knicks to complete the deal.
i am facinated how the agent relationship and power dynamic plays a role in this situation. I've learned that sometimes franchises do things that may not seem in their near term interest, in order to preserve a relationship with agents ...from a long-term interest standpoint. If it really is a player's league, this deal will get done. The only wildcard is Dolan. He doesn't give a fck about what anyone else thinks. He doesn't play by anyone else's rules. Dolan could always screw all of this up; there's no logic to his decision-making on a lot of things.
seems to me to SOP... new guy feels included in the process, last effort at the best deal possible... you need to threaten a deadline, which I assume would be a non-guaranteed contract guarnatee.
Seems like for Carmelo the thought of being a Rocket is just as exciting of us wanting him to be a Rocket. The same let down feeling we are getting seems like the same he is feeling. This article is good news. Might take longer but seems still like a matter of time. New GM probs will change something small so his presence was felt on the deal instead of just signing off.
