Or perhaps Morey is letting the market be set, and then he can swoop in and match the offer with all the stuff you just mentioned. That is what I am hoping for.... DD
Being a FA next year is a good thing? there's even less money and the class is much stronger. This seems like the typical NY media BS to me, they make it seem like every player is trying to come to NY when no one really wants to go there.
$1.9 mil for one year? We could match that with remaining MLE money. But then signing Taylor/Budinger might be trickier.
NY would be a perfect fit for him. All offense, no defense team . No seriously, the Knicks are one of a few teams outside of Houston that I like. It will be nice to see him play for them. We'll see how much of a black hole he can truly be.
Not really, the MLE is around 5.8m and Anderson's first year is only 2.3m, leaving over 3.5m left to sign our guys. And I believe 2nd round picks don't count against the MLE unless you give them more than the league minimum. So, there is more than enough to sign all 3, the question is do you want to? DD
Thats what I've read in between the lines from some of the FO comments on Wafers status. 1.9 seems reasonable, so I could see the Rockets still being interested. Although, that salary is pretty much what Alexander invested in Budinger and Taylor. Hmmm. Didn't Wafer balk at a 3.5 offer or alleged offer from the Rockets or was that just a rumor?
If we were really serious about Wafer, we wouldn't have bought the draft picks or pulled in Ariza. I like Von but the writing is on the wall and with our current situation, I wouldn't be surprised if the Rockets have already decided to let him walk. Truthfully, he might be able to make more money with a one year deal this season and maybe catching one of the foolish teams in 2010 to give him a big contract.
Bingo. We only have 15 roster spot, and two of them are held by T-Mc and Yao Ming. We should send Taylor overseas to work on his left-hand dribbling and sign Wafer, Budinger and a backup true center like Mihm (experience), Petro (thleticism) or O'Bryant (most long-range potential).
According to the article (it is NY garbage... which is about the equivalent of SINA) the Knicks are possibly offering the bi-annual exception. The Rockets currently do not have the bi-annual exception (see Brent Barry). So they would have to use a portion of the MLE to sign him. IMO they aren't being cheap they just used millions on acquiring 3 draft picks + the rights to Anderson. They have used a portion on Andersons contract and will most likely use some on the JT and Budinger to sign them to multi-year deals on the cheap to see if they can develop. DM is letting the market set a price. Then he will evaluate if Wafer is worth what the market sets.
We need to sign Wafer with the MLE before Taylor, let Budinger and Wafer split the MLE. Hopefully Morey works it out, it would be a shame to let Von walk for a 1.9M 1 year deal.
Bi-annual exception? 2.9 millions? Wafer hits a gold mine. It's NY Knicks anyway. Dolan doesn't care about money.
von should take that money and run. I dont see Morey picking him back up. He has so much to work on his game. I caught him playing at the procity at fonde and he went maybe 1 for 10. James White is more athletic and can do just as much as Von.
It would be nice to get Super Von back, even though his defensive is a bit weak. But it seemed like his defense got a bit better (not a lot better, but definitely improved a bit) with more playing time. With Shane and Ariza, i think he could develop into an average defensive player. The problem with signing VON is that he takes up another roster spot. Right now, i think we need at least ONE MORE big man to clog the paint. And just like others are saying...Morey and Alexander spent 6mil on picks this year and i'm sure they see a lot of potential in Taylor and Budinger, or maybe they're just trade baits... who knows what Morey's gonna pull out of his hat this time. But Super Von for a two-year $3.5 mil with the 2nd year being a team option wouldn't be too bad.
I think he'd be a nice fit in D'Antoni's system (fill that Leandro Barbosa role) if they have a good decision-making PG.
Does it really cost a million dollar more to live in New York? What ever makes Wafer happy, good for him.
