I still wouldn't have fired Thibs. But if they are going for Kidd, who has gotten to the finals before, it may be a play for Giannis who fits better with a veteran team in the East, with less competition. Kidd coached Giannis and had the first idea of developing him playing point guard as a young player, which dramatically helped his passing/playmaking. If they pull it off it could look like a gamble that paid off. But if not and right now, it looks like making a drastic change after your most successful season in 25 years is a terrible move. We'll see
Totally agree with you. It seems clear to me the player exit interviews set off huge alarm bells with the Knicks to the point it forced their hand. It was enough to overrule Brunson's love of Thibs, so it had to be more than just Bridges with harsh comments.
Thibs should never get a coaching gig again, the game has passed him by, and he shortens players careers. DD
Doesn't matter - the goal is not an ECF, the goal is a ring, he always falls short and burns players out.... DD
ECF, the game definitely hasn't passed him by, if the Knicks hadn't blown game 1 they would be in the finals today. BTW, Thibs didn't play his bench much because his bench sucks.
I do think the Knicks are players for Giannis. It will probably take a third team to cooperate, but their is always someone that will play.
LOL No, the game hasn't passed him by. Good luck finding a coach that can run a suitable post season defense with both Brunson and KAT on the court. I don't think a lot of fans realize how bad those two are defensively, and how easily they can be exploited in the playoffs. Brunson can be covered defensively by his teammates --- KAT and Brunson together cannot.
I think their owner still thinks if they can add 3 defenders and 2 on Offense that it would work...... OKC model says everyone should defend a little.
Almost no coach should have a job if the standard of being employed is winning a championship every few years.
Marc Stein on Jason Kidd: “I do not think he’s looking to leave Dallas. He’s very settled here, his family is very settled here and he’s very close with the two superstars (Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis) who are in place…”
" Shams Charania Another one: The New York Knicks have requested permission to speak with Atlanta Hawks head coach Quin Snyder, but were firmly denied, sources tell ESPN." https://www.espn.com/contributor/shams-charania/da6a8f823b69c.
https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/64...arch-permission-denials-tom-thibodeau-firing/ … I spent part of Wednesday evening trying to figure out which other current head coaches the Knicks might have attempted to contact. And while there were no new names revealed, it’s worth sharing that league sources say the Knicks did not request permission to speak to this elite coaching crew: The Pacers’ Rick Carlisle, the Warriors’ Steve Kerr, the Bucks’ Doc Rivers, the Clippers’ Ty Lue and the Lakers’ JJ Redick. … Yet with the Knicks seemingly shooting air balls left and right in pursuit of employed head coaches, league sources say there is an increased Knicks focus on two former coaches who don’t require permission to pursue: Mike Brown (last with the Sacramento Kings) and Taylor Jenkins (formerly of the Memphis Grizzlies). There could certainly be more names of (available) head coaches emerging soon, as a league source said the Knicks are planning on finalizing that list in the coming days. But Brown, in particular, profiles as an interesting option given the complicated nature of the Knicks’ inner circle. While Dolan is the holder of supreme Knicks power, and team president Leon Rose is the undisputed leader of the front office, executive vice president William Wesley (aka “Worldwide Wes”) continues to have the kind of influence that matters a great deal during times like these. For Brown’s purposes, it certainly doesn’t hurt his case that his close relationship with Wesley dates back to the mid-2000s days when Brown was coaching LeBron James’ Cleveland Cavaliers (Wesley, at that time, was a league-wide power broker and one of James’ primary confidantes).
Thibs can coach, its just that he runs his players into the ground with his stubbornness to only use short rotations.
