Like emjohn said if it were Lee and Hughes, I'd take that deal for sure. Hughes comes off the books plus he has some playmaking ability, for himself that is. But I doubt that's what would be offered. Could we S&T for Lee so we could be assured he'd stay past this season if it were to happen?
Actually, multiple smaller expiring contracts give you more flexibility in trading. On big expiring contract is always difficult to trade.
Gun to the head...TMAC/COOK for Harrington/Chandler/Mobley's contract and #1 pick in 2012(If they think so highly of there chances in the 2010 FA Class then this would be a low pick by then right? INSERT MOREY EVIL LAUGH)
Lee could be involved in a future S/T which isn't good enough but he could walk as a UFA too. No need for one and one Nate. Hughes' trade value is poor too. No thanks.
What about Darko, Mobley and Chandler for Mac? We get under the luxury tax this year and will still be under the cap next year. We also pickup another solid athletic wing, some much needed size and insurance is paying mobley's salary. Seems doable from the knicks perspective too.
Or even just Mobley and Milicic for TMac? In all honesty, Mobley's insured contract is MUCH easier to move again than TMacs is. Oh - and getting under the lux tax is massive. Milicic is 7' tall - oh, and he's not an AWFUL shot-blocker (he'd immediately be our best in that department). If we could squeeze Chandler or Hill out of them, then that's a complete bonus (send Joey Dorsey along for the ride I guess?)
Getting under the LT is good, but not enough by any means. Darko is nearly worthless, because of a lack of desire to do anything.

Scola and Landry are both better than David Lee, and Jermaine Taylor is better than Larry Hughes...Seriously, Larry Hughes is SO bad...

Wait?... Why would NY want Tmac? If he might have problems fitting with our run-n-gun system, how sure can we be he would fit with NY? I understand, NY makes stupid decisions, but this would be really boneheaded. (Not a Tmac diss) Tmac likes the half court set, a team like San Antonio would love him (well, if he plays defense for them) but not NY.... I could be wrong....
NY could land a major FA. Next year, TMAC, only 30, will be healthy and will be underpaid. TMAC could be a very nice complementary player. He is better than anyone on the Knicks roster this season.
True, but then they'd have to ditch the D'Antonie system all together (most likely to be attractive to all the FA's in the 2010 FA). I could see Tmac and LeBron, or Tmac and Dwade, heck, even Tmac and Bosh would be a nice combo, but I don't think D'Antonie would be the right coach for any of those combinations...
A player cannot fit system when the coach dont play him and will fit when the coach play him. If I am NY, I will get Both Tmac and AI.
