If NYK is the 6th worst team in the league, that lottery is going to be a nail-biter.

And there will be pressure on them to tank into 5th position

If they are 6th, they have a 21.4% chance of being in the top 3 (and the top 5).

If they have the 5th worst record, they have a 55% chance of being in the top 5.

Given the number of bad teams out there (CHA, SAC, DET, WAS, NOH, GSW, TOR, etc.) it would be hard to out-tank half of those teams.

Who exactly gets to witness the lottery, reason I ask is because I don't trust Stern at all.

Keep in mind that if a star becomes available at the deadline & the Knicks are still sucking, Morey may strike while the iron is hot and sell it as a "mid to high lottery pick" to get a superstar.

I believe each team gets an observer, and it is conducted by an independent accounting firm. So make of that what you will.

That pick looks like it might end up near the 7th to 10th pick. Knicks have Amare and Carmelo still. They will win some games. So There have got to be at least 5 to 7 teams worse than a team with Carmelo, Amare, and their center. The East is real weak. The Knicks suck so its around that number 7-10.

Well the best part of it is that, the situation adds intrigue into the pick as a tradeable asset. It's not like you are cheering against the Knicks, it's just that they are so incohesive that the team is currently spiraling. Carmelo and Amare aren't working.

Just a few months ago, this pick seemed like it late first round pick, almost equivalent to a top 2nd round pick. If this pick ends up being a top 10 pick, I say simply "GRAVY"!!!!

But right now the value of the pick is escalating.

Lets not forget the 1993 lottery, with Orlando having a 1.52% chance of winning. The probability is even lower when you consider back to back number 1 picks.

    I don't trust Davis Stern.

It's funny -- at first I thought the pick would be a low first rounder and I, like everyone else, was rooting for the Knicks to lose every time that I saw they were playing. But now I have mixed feelings and am afraid the value of that pick is going to mirror the stock value of Enron:

good, better, better, BETTER, THIS IS AWESOME!, worthless.

Wasn't Isiah Thomas the guy behind the scenes last year that made the Carmelo deal happen?

Damn, how many times can one guy screw up a franchise?

Scribo needs to make a thread on the Knicks magic numbers and the percentage chances of getting a top 5 pick.

Knicks are projected to finish 10-11th worst record with a 19% chance of getting into the playoffs per Hollinger's analysis

Carmelo is back. Knicks blowout the Pistons, the 29th best team in the league. Oh no, we might have to worry about the Knicks challenging for a playoff spot now.

Make it tougher for them to tank for top 5 pick.

GO BULLS! Carmelo is back from his extended rest. Hopefully, the Bulls win tonight.

Knicks are in 10th place and are 2 games behind 8th seeded Bucks. The Bucks have the tie-breaker, so the Knicks are really 3 games behind.
