If we can find a third team to take Hinrich or Salmons like it mentioned in the report, why not? Miller and Thomas both have expiring contract, just flip Hinrich/Salmons to a third team for expiring contract and we still got the cap space to be a player in the summer. plus we got a chace to check out Thomas and his bird rights for S&T and whatever we can get for Hinrich/Salmons. (LA reportly willing to trade Morrison's expiring contract for Hinrich and maybe Cle. will take Salmons for pick)
There is no battle. If Walsh can't move their garbage, they will not have the firepower to get Lebron, or two other elite free agents. Simple as that. Morey can sit on McGrady until the Summer.
Uhhh, Negative. If Walsh doesn't get him, he'll go to the Bulls. There will be no sitting on anyone. A move WILL be done, and it won't be a buyout of McGrady.
Ok, Harrington is an expiring contract already...that is the only asset the Bulls would want from the Knicks. Why would the Bulls take Jeffires when they want cap space this summer too? Think, man.
Can you explain why Chicago would take on bad contracts? I don't think Jeffries and a pick swap is going to wow the Bulls into helping NYK with an expiring and eating his salary.
wait... so does that mean..... WALSH SAW THE VIDEO!?!??!?!?!?!!??????!!!!!!!!!! thats just sad smoothie
http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=ys-tradebuzz021710&prov=yhoo&type=lgns Hill in Rockets deal? If the New York Knicks and Houston Rockets work out an agreement for Tracy McGrady, Knicks rookie Jordan Hill expects to be in the deal, a source close to him said. The Knicks have made it clear they’ll be willing to include Hill if it helps them move Jared Jeffries’ contract. Trading Hill and Jeffries would clear more than $9 million in salary-cap space, allowing the Knicks to possibly sign two max-level free agents this summer. – Marc J. Spears, 12:04 p.m. ET, Feb. 17
Supposedly the Knicks do not want to include Hill. I think they'll do it before it's all said and done. Edit: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=5111009&postcount=813 Conflicting reports!
The NYKs keeping Hill only adds payroll when that is what they are wanting to shed. That and the stigma of picking Hill at #8.
Agreed. Walsh isn't doing anything any other competent GM wouldn't do. The problem is he has to get the deal done for the sake of the franchise. Morey doesn't have to do jack. This is beyond funny to me that NY is even half expecting Morey to fall for this.
If that does go through I'm wondering how many older heads will slip up referring to them as "Haywood Jeffires" or "Drew Hill". Its bound to happen
Just thinking from their perspective here... If Walsh cannot get the deal done, then he still can do a sign and trade of Jeffries + Hill + David Lee + picks for the max FA. For example, Toronto might very well decide getting David Lee, Hill and picks as a replacement for Bosh is not so bad compared to potentially losing him for nothing. Also not sure if there is time in the summer for the Knicks to pay an under the cap team to take Jeffreys (e.g. Jeffreys + Hill + picks + $3M for a second rounder). Not a bad price for a team under the cap, especially as Jeffrey's contract in the final year is that bad if $3M of it is paid for by another team). I am guessing someone will take it. Also, for the Bimas of the world, can New York then turn around and buy their own second rounder in the above deal back for another $3M, making Jeffreys almost free? E.g. Deal 1: Jeffreys + Hill + 2012 protected first rounder + 2010 second rounder + $3M for a future heavily protected second round pick Deal 2: $3M for the NY's original second round pick from the above trade. If necessary, do deal 3 where NY buys that team's 2010 second rounder for another $3M. No need to match salaries if second team is below cap. And one thing NY don't mind doing is spend $$$. Just saying that objectively, they do have other options. However, getting the deal done now will save that headache later (and they can still pay that rebuilding team to take yet another contracted player if they need even more cap room, althought they won't have the draft picks and Hill as bait anymore)
Just thinking aloud again.. couldn't they just buy out Jeffreys this year? Pay him a LOT of money (even more than the remaining monies owed to him?), and give him a chance to sign with a contender for the minimum? This would only hit their cap this year, right? Sorry not a cap expert...
