Yup, word is that he has been in the weight room every day. Attitude problems maybe, but the kid wants to be great... I still don't think he is a center realistically, but he could be a tall Garnett type body in the future.
Isn't it a huge risk to trade our picks for Galo/AR/Chandler when they are all expiring this year? They can just walk after this year and our pick would be wasted.
They traded David Lee for Randolph essentially, I highly doubt that they accept a simple pick for him. Randolph is a clear PF. We have 5 PFs already: Scola, Hayes, Patterson, Hill and Jeffries, so I don't see that. Rockets current roster has no needs, except the possible need of a superstar talent like Carmelo is (or Chris Paul). In other words: I would not help the Knicks to get Melo, because I would go for Melo.
Not much risk for guys on rookie contracts. They have an option year and then they become restricted free agents.
1st of all those aren't my measurements, those are his pre-draft camp measurements: Draft Measurements 2008 2nd, what is with this fasination of playing Randolph at the 5. 'YES' he has the measurements, but so does Durant and you don't dee him in the post playing the center or power forward position. Randolph's potential lies in his play making ability at his size(6'10). When you look at Randolph you have to think more Kevin Durant, Hedo Turkoglu (a dynamic play maker) and little less Tim Duncan and Kevin Garnett(a low post presence ). Yes technically your correct, however he did became 19 like a month after the measurements, now I'm not saying he didn't grew any after that. But a great majority of guys stop growing around that age.
There is a team option on Randolph plus he is a restricted free agent after his rookie contract (which he is on). No risk of loosing him to free agency unless the team does not want him.
Many others have already debunked your theory on his height. My facination with him as a 5 is simple. Yao is not getting any younger and Randolph has the height, athleticism, rebounding, shotblocking and skill to be a damn good 5. What team would not want an Athletic 6'11" shot blocker that can rebound and has offensive skill as their center?
Why wasn't anyone hyping up Chandler when we had all this trade speculation at last year's deadline? Oh right, that's because he's not worth anything at all. Neither is Gallinari (not if you want to win and play good defense doing so at least). The only player with potential on their block is Randolph. Color me unimpressed.
you don't see the difference in expectations between last years trade talk and this? last year we were trading tmac/huge ending contract. we wanted a huge score. now we are asking for compensation in order to facilitate a trade. you don't think it's worth giving up a first rounder for chandler or gallinari? what value do you think the knicks picks will have once they have melo?
size isn't everything! erm, i mean... you have to take into account a players skill set. durant's game is different than that of randolph's. lots of guys are the same size, but it's how you use it that makes the difference.
