6'11" 21 year olds that have athletisism, skill and can block shots don't grow on trees. I would take him in a second for NY's picks back. Groom him as the heir to Yao. We could possibly have our future front court already on the team: Center - Randolph PF - Pat SF - Chase
If he is going to go to NY anyway, then might as well strike while you can...... It gets Melo out of the Western Conference, and the Knicks picks would be pretty low anyway.... Randolph is worth a shot, highly skilled, talented, who needs an attitude adjustment. Sounds like a great risk to take. To get a superstar player, you need to get lucky in the draft, or get a young player that can develop into one. Randolph would be the guy with the most upside on the Rockets team...doesn't mean he will get there, but it can't hurt to have that talent learning from the professionals on the Rockets squad. DD
My opinion is that if you can get Randloph or Gallinari then you do it. Both those guys have good size and the potential to be really good players. Lot's of valid points have been made about how any Knicks move for Anthony might affect the value of the Knicks picks that we hold. The other consideration with the '11 pick is the potential for a lockout in '12. If it looks like there could be a lockout in '12, then that would discourage early entry players from declaring for the '11 draft. Most college kids won't take the chance of not being able to play and not getting paid for a full season. Here's part of an ESPN Insider article about how it could hurt the '11 draft. If the draft was weakened as descrbed then the '11 pick (Knicks or Rockets) isn't worth much. Our own Larry Coon did a great job of looking at some of the potential ramifications of a lockout next summer. Here's another one. It could utterly destroy the 2011 NBA draft. "We're really worried," one NBA GM told ESPN.com. "The lifeblood of any draft is the underclassmen, and our scouts are hearing that many of them won't declare if there's a chance of a long lockout next year. Why go into the draft if you won't be paid and won't be allowed to play? Better to go back to college." Dick Vitale would be happy, but a number of NBA executives are legitimately concerned. This year, the first 22 players selected in the draft were underclassmen. In our most recent 2011 Top 100, only two of the top 25 prospects are college seniors. No one is going to get too excited if Duke's Kyle Singler and Morehead State's Kenneth Faried are the two top players in the draft -- well, except Singler and Faried. http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/blog?name=nba_draft&id=5610548
How many times does it have to be said... Randolph is not a center. He will never be a center. He gets pushed around at the 5.
I'm not saying we shouldn't get him though. I like Randolph, but be realistic about his position please. He's not "Yao's successor".
You don't know that. He is 21 years old and 6'11 225 lbs and his body is still developing. He can rebound and block shots very good and he has skill on the offensive end. If the Rockets get him he could very well turn out to be Yao's successor. If it worked out you could even see Yao moved into a Bill Walton type of role when he was with the Celtics.
I don't really like what the Knicks have to offer... AR a good player.. but I really much rather upgrade the 3 spot.. I wonder if we could get Philly in the mix and pick up Iggy... that would make me a happy man J Hill, JJ, and Chandler to Philly AR, Gallo, TD and NY pick to Denver Melo, and Brand to New York Iggy, Birdman to Houston Brooks/Lowry Martin/Lee Iggy/Battier/Budinger Scola/Patterson/ Yao/Miller/Birdman Don't kno how the number's work.. but look like a good deal 4 everyone and with Battier Exp and Trade Exc.. we woul still have room to make some more moves to better the team
well its a no brainer. but what about this: melo says he will only sign extension with ny. nuggets forced to reach agreement with knicks, and settle for gallo and randolph package. now, stock in knicks picks hit all time low (especially the option to swap). if the nuggets didnt want to release randolph for just 1 pick, would you up the ante? if so, what would your next offer be?
I'm sorry but I have to set the record straight, Randolph is not 6'11. The guy is 6'9 without shoes, and 6'10.25 in shoes. With that said he still posses great height and length for either forward spot. With Randolph, we could construct a young front court of Randolph(SF), Patterson(PF), and Hill(C). Personally I would try to move a vet like Chuck Hayes and/or Jared Jeffries, in order to make room for our new young front line.
you can say it as many times as you like. doesn't make it true. he's only 10lbs lighter than camby, and has the hight, wingspan, and standing reach of a center. not to mention the skill set of one too. oh and he's only 21. i'm pretty sure he can still add 10 lbs and work on his post defense.
That's not true, he was still growing when the predraft measurements took place. He is a legit 6-11...
since we are setting the record straight, those measurements were from the draft combine when he was 18. he has since grown.
Walsh: Hi Daryl. Look, we're kind of in a bind here. W- Morey: STFU Donny. We're still waiting on the chicken and rice stand and HOFer Walt Frazier. A deal's a deal. *hangs up phone*
From Marc Stein, ESPN: "Unrelated but undeniably intriguing Warriors tidbit: Slender rookie Anthony Randolph, also known as the closest thing to an untouchable on the Warriors' payroll, has gained 20 pounds and grown an inch to nearly 7 feet since the end of this past season."
I still think Morey is looking to get Granger from the Pacers and Cousins from the Kings. I think Morey looks at our starting lineup and sees 2 spots where we could actually go out and upgrade them. One is PG. I like Brooks, but 43% shooting from your PG is not ideal, especially if he's going to be shooting 10-15 shots a game. I would think he would be just fine if he were shooting at 46% or higher, maybe he will this year. I think the clear upgrade that could be available is Paul, but will he agree to a trade with 2 years left to us, especially with his boys waiting for him in NY....possibly. The other position is the 3 and I think we've wanted Danny Granger for a while, just like Martin, and Courtney Lee. Granger had a down year on shooting % but his history shows that 44%-46% is his avg, while shooting 38%-40% for three, and over 85% on his free throws......very efficient player. Regarding Cousins, I think Morey is preparing us that Yao may not be around for too much longer. Optimistically, he'll be able to play as long as Rik Smits or Ilgauskas. But that is an unknown, so if Morey can get the next guy in there, we'll be set with the backup center for a while, and then when ready, move to be the starting center. If we do trade these picks to NY for their assets (Randolph, Gallo, etc), I do think we will be looking at adding another team or 2 into this trade and solidifying some of the spots I mentioned above. In any trade, Patterson, Hill, Buddinger, Jefferies, Taylor, and whatever we get from the Knicks becomes fair game. That's a lot of pieces that aren't even considered starters. Bud could become one, but he is unnecessary if we get Granger. If we end up get an Anthony Randolph, then Hill and Patterson become disposable in a trade. Morey's got something up his sleeve and I know many of you wanted Melo, but I think whatever trade Morey does, it will be a sure upgrade of the team.
Sorry I forgot that you were the one that measured him. He is as tall as most centers in the game. He has plenty of height to play center.
