The Knicks are just stalling in hopes that star players of other squads might be able to convince him to open up his list of teams a bit so they can trade him while getting a better haul. They have no reason to rush this and accept crap, and while they may still end up doing it in the end they're going to wait until whatever deadline they set for themselves before doing any deal like that. It's the only move they have left because neither side wants a buyout but both sides know that the longer this drags on the more likely a buyout is to happen. Morey is banking on the Knicks blinking first and Melo not giving in to their demands.
I agree with every single thing you said. Including not losing sleep over Melo coming or not. I am highly curious though how he would play being on the best team he has played on by far, especially compared to the last few seasons. I would assume he would look at it as a chance to resurrect his perception as a winner/loser in the NBA. He would also I assume not want to be looked at as vastly inferior to Harden and Paul. He wants to be more of the Ray Allen to Garnett and Pierce than Bosh to Wade and Lebron if that makes sense.
It's an interesting pairing for sure. CP3, Harden, Melo and assuming we only have to give up Anderson to make it happen would be nice and the Rockets would have good depth too. I don't think the Rockets will be able to work out a trade where that happens while only giving up Anderson, though. Morey has to decide if he's willing to part with another player such as Capela or Gordon or Ariza in order to make the trade work while potentially taking back a player who we may not want. Otherwise he's hoping for the buyout. I don't see Melo being on the Knicks roster to start the year. Then again, this is the Knicks so you never know and it's been discussed to the point of dead horse beating on here. I'm personally at the point of not caring anymore, if it happens then fine and if it doesn't im cool with that too.
As long as defenses treat him like he's inferior to Paul and Harden, he'll look pretty darn close to being their equal (IMHO).
The more I think about it I don't think I want Melo on The Rockets next year (or any year). The Squad as is good. I think The Rockets should wait until the season starts, seeing how they play together, before making any more moves... But then again I am a teacher and basketball enthusiastic and not a player/staff. I get paid for other reasons and, on a personal level, I'm glad to work with addicts day and night instead of stuff like this. We have to no our limitations as we know our strengths in life. Going into the season as is has it's advantages. I want our GM to let any stone go unturned, so to speak. Is Melo the missing piece? I, for one, don't know that he is. Have you ever done something stupid that you wish you could take back? I have and don't want Melo to be the organization's Achilles heel so to speak moving forward.
This, plus he doesn't address how they'd defend our guys. Who defends CP3, Harden and Melo? Draymond can only focus on one, the rest of their perimeter guys aren't world-class defenders. Steph would have to guard CP3 or Harden, which is pretty one-sided as well. People are overhyping GSW currently, they've been close to elimination and struggled several times these past years. A core with CP3, Harden, Ariza, Melo, Capela, Tucker, Gordon doesn't have to hide from any team.
Yeah... paying Ryan Anderson $20 million per year. I'm doing my best to make up for it by trading the real Achilles heel for Melo. Signed, Daryl Morey.
If we trade Anderson and scraps for Anthony, that's a no-brainer. You have to do it. Even if he doesn't make the team better and doesn't opt out he's an expiring contract next year. And that's the worst case scenario.
Indeed. Without it I don't think we could have built a championship level team this year. Think what we would have to give up for a fair market trade.
The Durant warriors never got close to elimination and never struggled. They blew through the playoffs like wet tissue, managing to lose one game to Cleveland along the way before yawning and curb stomping them.
Did you watch the Spurs series prior to the Kawhi injury? Spurs were extremely competitive and a game 1 win would've been huge for them.
You are trying to say they are overrated because of a few quarters of the first game of the series? Easily could have just been a letdown. The cavs were better than the spurs and they mauled them
Just like we trash John McClain though, he often DOES break news for the Texans and he does legitimately have sources within the organization. He puts out what they want him to say. Isola's reporting on the Melo deal has essentially been in lock step with Woj and Begley (and Potato.)
