OK what do you want to improve on? No 2 in this draft is going to be better next year than either Lee or Martin. There is no Davis in the draft at the 2. Lets see the 2's in this league - Wade, Harden, Kobe, Ginobli, Ellis ... can you even come up with a plan to get any of them? And why would we want Ellis? Are you just holding a pot in the rain hoping that an all star SG lands in it? Crap - Martin when healthy is a top 10. Play Lee against Wade or Harden.
Somebody else or Martin if we have to. Face it, Lee had plenty of playing time to prove what he could do last year, he without a doubt isn't a starting guard in this league, at best he is a mid level bench player. Either Mchale needs to learn how to use Martin like RA did or we need to have somebody else. I don't mind Lee coming of the bench but if he is our starting two guard then we won't have much chance of being successful.
I'm a little slow today, that's better than Lee's 11 ppg. Plus although Lee is a good defender he does have trouble with big two guards.
I like the Martin that played for Adelman, but not the one that played for McHale. So unless you are getting us Adelman back as a coach, or Martin somehow figures out how to defend at least a bit on the perimeter, then we will be in trouble with him pulling significant minutes as the starting 2. Lee? Please, the guy is among the lower half of NBA starting 2's. An occasional good game, and he is fine coming off the bench to spell the starter, but if I am Morey and Asik was really on the table for Lee I would be kicking myself. So right now we have what could be a good scoring 2 off the bench (if he could mentally accept the role) and a decent backup 2 coming off the bench. And Bud, a third 2 coming off the bench. Hence, my desire to get a better 2 to start. I'd like Terrence Ross... shoots better than Lee, and defends way better than Martin, and has great length as a 2. He should be there at 14 or 16. So no unrealistic trades... just make the pick and get a player that should be able to slide right into the starting lineup.
Clee....all day Knowing that KMart can play better defense when he wants to just makes me even more annoyed at him. Shows a lack of work ethic and commitment to work at every part of the game. At least I know the team will get everything Clee's got...
Vs Kmart yes, dollar for dollar no. Clee has better value (current contract at least). KMart could do so much more to meet the expectations of his contract, he just chooses not to.
Sure. One can assume that about Martin but in fact there are better 2nd, 3rd offensive options out there. A Lebron prefers to play with Wade, Durant does it with Harden, Westb. Martin works only if you have 2 defensive beasts on a team, and that is truly rare on a contender. Sure if your goal is merely to make the playoffs, win one round, then Martin could be a viable 3rd option or 2nd offensive one. Naturally rather in the East.
Kmart came here bc of Yao, meaning double team kick it to kmart and Baaang or go to the basket and hit some free throws. Now if a miracle happens and we end up getting DH12 Clee is expandable. but you can make the same argument about Courtney specially the way he played this last season all depends of Morey
disregarding his defense, I actually like KMart. Because he is the hero Houston deserves... but not the one it needs right now. Lee will do for now
Lee is the better of the two IMO but we're going nowhere with either. Martin is going into the final year of his contract while Lee is restricted. I'd rather look to the future and possibly get Terrence Ross in the draft with his size and being able to defend or wait until next years trade deadline and make a push for James Harden!
Simply, this. Courtney Lee is a solid bench player, but is not the answer to our starting SG. Kevin Martin not only wants to play for McHale, he also isn't near as productive as he was in Adelman's system. I'd actually rather play Bud at the 2 spot.
Martin has a below average season caused by injuries, lockout, new coach and clutchfans crucifies him. Yup, sounds about right.
