If Bonzi hadn't admitted that he gave the amount of effort last year equivalent to what he was paid, I'd agree with you. Bonzi's a dirtbag and could do the same this year.
Adelman's system is somewhat complex, but definatley not over the top. In the half court sets, everything is broken out into either weak side action; i.e. Francis and Battier running a pick and pop or screen roll, or strong side action: i.e. Scola or Yao at the highpost with a cutter and a spot up shooter. The ball rotates from strong to weak based on the read, and if nothing is there they will be taught to move the ball to the opposite side quickly. The cool thing is that with all the motion and ball movement, we will have the ability to flop the strong/weak sides quickly; which makes it difficult to defend. I think Kirk's ability to cut and finish makes him ideal for spot minutes under Coach A. Probably not a playoff rotation player..... but I think he has a spot on the team.
I got to see most of the games Snyder payed for the Hornets when they were in OKC, and I must say, most of this stuff about him having a low bball IQ is untrue. He was an above average passer, GREAT slasher and finisher, decent ball handler (nothing special, but not bad), and an adequate shooter from outside. The only reason they let him go for next to nothing is because he started acting up during the summer league, taking shots away from some of the younger guys. I think Byron Scott told him to stop, they had an argument, and well that was the end of that. Reading this thread and the genarally low opinions of Kirk tells me that he has not recieved nearly enough PT here to make an impression. If you just look at his splits, you'll see that when he gets minutes, he generally produces decent numbers (surprisingly well in rebounds and assists). I think his biggest endorsement is the fact that both TMac and Yao have lamented that JVG didn't give him more minutes. I would bet that he'll do really well under Adelman.
Underrated!? Hmm.... interesting. Snyder was cut by 2 coaches and 2 teams that's dying for talents for peanuts. Both Jerry Sloan and Bryan Scott said the same thing about Snyder: lack of improvements from day 1 & bad shoot selections. So, both coaches mainly said Snyder couldnt learn how to do the right things in a set offense. How was Snyder under JVG? JVG was dying for 1 more player in his 7-1/2 men rotations heading to the playoffs that he's willing to work fat Bonzi back at the season end until Bonzi shut himself down. Snyder? Since Snyder had recovered from his wrist injury, JVG seemed to forget about him. Damn you, JVG! You such a fool to waste Snyder's talent. To be honest, this maybe the last season of Kirk Snyder in NBA if he doesnt show improvements. Giving the logjam of 2/3 in the Rockets, Snyder wont have too much opportunities.
Snyder will do well as a peripheral threat. His athleticism will help him draw fouls as long as he takes it hard to the rim. He wasn't really given enough playing time for him to show improvement. The principal backcourt player that was given excess opportunity to strut his stuff was our starting pointguard.
I was disappointed like everyone else here with his lack of effort. So he is mentally weaker than many, but he still has a lot more skills than Snyder does, and he knows there is no contract on the table after this year becasue he has the option on the contract this season, he loves Adelman, and supposedly he is already in decent shape. These four are indicators to me that we will see a much better effort out of him. One other item, he was more critical to our playoff hopes last year so I think he felt he had more leverage on JVG. He has no leverage whatsoever this year. Whatever table he eats from for the next three years or so will be what he sets on it. If there is no food on it then it will be all on him. Taht is my un-educated guess
Good analysis of the situation if Bonzi were a somewhat normal person, I don't think he puts much thought in to anything.
I started a thread about Snyder a couple of weeks ago; I definitely think he is the "forgotten" Rocket, a diamond in the "ruff." He never was really given a chance under JVG. He appears to be a knucklehead, but his athleticism is through the roof. Immature, stupid, whatever: he may "Swift" out or blossom out, we'll see. I predict he will do better under the new system.
Well, from some of those pictures floating around of Bonzi and the lap sitting chicks during the last training camp I would say there are some things on his mind quite a lot
Snyder played well early last season before the injury. He's a tremendous athlete and he hustles, but he can't shoot. If he had a jumpshot he'd crack the rotation more.
