I agree, Fleener could be great here and possibly take Daniels' place his sophomore season, but if we take a damn TE with our first pick its just a bad allocation of resources. I would have rather dropped someone and kept Dressen rather than spending such a valuable pick on a TE2.
Bobby Massie isn't even listed on the Texans' official "guess the draft pick" game they're running right now. I'd be happy with OT/WR/ILB though.
If he turns out to be a star, it is a great allocation of resources. He could be the TE of the future and the TE2 for now. As long as the pick is on offense i'll be happy.
The more I think about the Texans needs the more I convince myself that they will not take a wide out until round 3 at the earliest. I see them prioritizing the offensive line and outside linebacker. They will probably take the highest rated at one of those positions. Perhaps though Fleener could be the only guy to make them go elsewhere. It might not be the most exciting draft but I could see the Texans considering it as a necessary plan to keep both lines going strong and protect against free agency next year. Only a week to go to find out.
Great tight ends are awesome to have. Dressen wasn't super special, imo. I guess Daniels will just never be what he once was?
My gosh, Fleener looks like he WOULD be that good. Just sling him Dre, and Daniels out there with Foster - that';s all we need. I still would like Kendall Wright, great body control, hands, and game speed. Alshon besides his height and adept leaping catches doesn't do it for me. I don't see the burst speed or the body control that I detect with Wright. very, very slight edge imo for Wright over Fleener- I'd be happy with either sexy pick. Get an OL later . . . .
I don't care how the Texans do it, but finding another elite wide is critical. Let's face it, no one knows if AJ will ever be 100% again.
He has not suffered any career threatening injuries. He should be back to 100%, the question is whether or not he can make it through 100% of the season.
