My point was that Calderon is waaay better than Udrih and the Kings will pay around the same amount for him. I don't know where alston came up but he is also getting overpaid but we traded to get him (and we didn't give up much). Duhon on the other hand may be a little worse than Udrih because Udrih is a better penetrator but he is in no way a better shooter. I don't know where you got that from (probably just looked at some stats). If you actually watch them both play you would see that Udrih is not a better shooter. He just has the same problem that Kirk Hinrich and Ben Gordon have. They can't get open on their jumpshots because the bulls have no inside presence. He may be better but he ain't twice as good but we'll see.
JZ, I agree with you. If I were a betting man Udrih will not earn his contract. But again, supply of PGs is low this offseason, and demand is high. And unlike most, Udriah at least had a good season last year. Calderon only has had 1 good season himself, but being young and coming off a good season is enough for the PG market.
They had close to the same stats this year, while players normally play a lot better during their contract year you can make a argument for both. Personally I wouldn't have paid him the MLE because I didn't think it would be that much of a improvement over rafer, but thats just me. We need to look at players who are off most people's radars, from teams who are too filled at a particular position. Some names off the top of my head. Ryan Gomes Lowary Sergio Rodriguez Chris Duhon James Jones Frye Webster Any of those guys would be a improvement over what we have coming off the bench right now.
Duhon's career shooting %s are virtually identical to Alston's. Both have been on good, and bad, teams. Alston however is a much more potent player (scoring, assists, creating), as strange as that sounds to use "potent" and Alston in the same sentence. I brought up Alston because someone mentioned Duhon. I am not inclined to target someone weak in Alston's weaknesses (shooting efficiency and overall offensive threat). Duhon's effective jumper last year was .46 (and probably close to his career average), Udrih at .50 (and 2/3rd of his shots were jumpers, not a low volume). Udrih is a better jumpshooter along with a lot of other offensive advantages if last season is any indication.
No, your wrong. One of the many things that you can't see on all these stat websites is that Rafer Alston has proven to be a bad shooter even when left completely open. Duhon has comparable shooting percentages but he has never had the benefit of a good post player to get him anywhere near the open shots that Rafer got. Whenever i watched bulls games, their perimeter guys (Duhon included) nailed their shots when open. Also, like i said, Udrih may be better than Duhon but not twice as good. Why overpay for Udrih when the Kings will royally suck next season.
btw, don't forget we need money to sign two rookies. one of them is 1st round. putting all MLE in one bucket won't work. landry's agent is playing game. clearly, they want more than what morey wants to pay. i have an impression they want at least half of MLE for a long term contract. they might very well demand 4+ mil/year with guaranty long term deal. morey doesn't want to commit a long term deal until health of his knee is a sure thing. no matter landry or not, i don't think morey will spend whole MLE on one player. he has no choice but split the money, such as rookies, barry... fans said because of landry hanging ove there, we can't do anything w/ our MLE. I don't agree on it.
You are entitled to your opinion based on watching Bulls games. However, last year the volume 3 shooters (> 2 per game) for the Bulls were Gordon, Hinrich, Nocioni, Hughes and Duhon. The year before they were were Gordon, Hinrich, Nocioni, and Duhon. The year before that they were Gordon, Hinrich, Nocioni, Pargo and Duhon. Guess whose % was at the bottom all 3 years? And by the way for 2 of the last 3 years the Bulls have been an excellent 3 point shooting team, they were getting good looks. Duhon isn't a horrible 3% shooter, but he is barely/borderline adequate like Rafer is, and Rafer is a lot better in other offensive skills.
Wow there is some serious talent/player shortage on the FA market this summer, at least in PGs. Couldn't they have traded for one from Memphis? I'm sure Memphis could have given one to them for free... A max MLE offer I think is too much for Udrih...unless they see something in him we don't see... I just want to point out that I think this is a great opportunity for us to get Artest...they need a PG and we're stacked at PG. We'll give them Rafer/Jackson, as well as Brooks in addition to picks. And we get to keep Battier! Get it done Morey!
