This is very unfortunate considering he played 80 games in 06/07.

My best memory of him will probably be him giving it to Duncan a few times during that 2006 Kings-Spurs series where Bonzi went off and earned his "Spur killer" reputation. There were a few stretches during that series where Duncan had the "David Robinson Eyes" when guarding SAR.

Talent was obviously never the issue with this guy. It's a shame he can't continue to play. 31-years-old is a tough age to call it quits.

I honestly didn't know he was still in the league either. I wish him well on his life after basketball.

His story has some similarity to Carl Landry. The Nets were ready to sign him to a 4-5 year full MLE deal after an intensive campaign to sign him which included tours of New Jersey, presentations about the Nets organization and wining and dining. He took a physical prior to the signing where they determined his known knee problems might be serious enough to be career ending and in a stunning turnaround, the Nets declined to sign him. Guess the Nets made a good business decision re: SAR, certainly the Kings didn't get back their investment in SAR.

Morey has to be thinking the same thing when it comes to Landry.

its rare to see a player retire while still under contract. he could've just sat at the end of the bench and earned a few more million. i don't know if he's being noble or stupid. either way i wish him well.

Classless people tend to do that. The next time you whine about a "thug" or a "criminal" or players who care more about themselves then the game remember you hurt your ears yawning because a good, team first player, who has pumped millions of dollars into the community, retired before his time, and will probably have an artificial knee.

The contract is guaranteed whether you play or not, or even if you retire.

is that right? i didn't know that.

the contract then doesn't count against the cap when you retire, just counts against the owners checking account, i guess. is that the allan houston rule? ;)

the Allan Houston rule was a one time thing.

the way I read this is that the retired player's salary still counts against the cap.

oh crap i forgot that there was really an allan houston rule.

i was just joking around about the retired players salary being named after him because the knicks were paying him for years after his retirement.

He does that every now and then I noticed. You make an innocuous comment and he goes postal complete with a standing soapbox diatribe. And to top it off, alot of his opinions were nothing to get worked up about in the first place.

heh, even funnier part is that the Knicks didn't even use it on him.

It sure seemed like it was for years, tho it was only for two seasons (really 2.5 since he only played like 30 games in 04/05)

Loved the guys shot, but 6yr 100M?? He would have been the most hated player here if we had given him that contract.
