If anything Lebron has lived up to the hype. The guy was on the cover of Sports Illustrated his junior year of high school. All the analysts, scouts and writers were right about this guy from a talent perspective. He got the the finals his 4th year in the league. I know the East is weak but what is he supposed to do about that? Not to mention he lost to a Spurs team who won their 4th title in 9 years.

Did you guys see 3 Spurs players left lebron wide open on the perimeter to stop his penetration during Game 4?

Lebron is a great slasher but until he builds up a killer shot he will never reach the level of Kobe or I will say McGrady.

I just can't see teams leaving Kobe, Mcgrady or Wade open like that on a perimeter, doesn't matter how sorry the are shooting in the game.

cmon guys, this kid played his heart out for his team..he didnt just sat down and cried like a baby but instead he played like a true warrior..sadly he has not got the right tools around him yet..dont forget yao was also mentioned as overrated in his first 3 years...I totally respect the kid and his efforts for bringing the cavs to the finals, better luck next year

Wade is not a very good shooter, but he was smart and went to the hole a lot.

You can't see teams leaving Wade open on the perimeter? Wade's eFG% on jump shots is 50 points lower than Rafer Alston's. In fact Wade is a very similar jump shooter to James.

Not last year in the playoffs he wasn't. That combined with his drive ability was why he was so unstoppable. MJ wasn't a great 3 shooter nor is Parker--but they are still great shooters, Wade is somewhere between them.

Lebron is a top 5 player, probably top 3. He just needs a consistent J to be the best player in the league.

If you want to compare him he is a more physical version of an in their prime Grant Hill or Pippen. Damn good.

I'll give my 2 cents without reading all posts in this thread:

Before game 5 in Detroit, LeBron's reputation was fairly close to where it should have been. The problem is after that game too many expectations were placed on him. There was no way he could deliver and he was destined to fall short because he played way over his head offensively the last 25 minutes. That performance took a lot out of him and I think he was a spent player after the final buzzer. I wasn't surprised he didn't have another great game the rest of the playoffs, though his complete loss of shooting touch was a surprise. He isn't that good of a shooter but who would have expected him to become Chuck Hayes?

LeBron needs to work on his mid-range shooting and defense. I expect him to go to another level next season and perhaps win the MVP award. He is a great player and why so many want to criticize and demean him is puzzling. It reminds me of the Wade discussions last year. If you don't like LeBron and Wade, who both represent a lot of what is good about the NBA, maybe you should find some other entertainment. Blame the over-hyping of certain individual players on the NBA, ABC, ESPN (and maybe TNT).

Top 3 player in the league??? What about Duncan, Dirk, Nash, Kobe, Tmac, Garnett, Arenas, Dwade, maybe even Shaq? If you want to win now you would take those guys instead of LeBron. He is no where near a top 3 player in the league. Don't compare Pippen/Hill to LeBron... when they were in their primes they WERE top 5 players in the league.

Dwayde lost in the first round and he has shaq. Ditto Arenas. Garnett has made it past the 1st round once. Shaq got bounced in the 1st round. Tmac has never been passed the 1st despite being up in some of those series. The cavs without lebron are the probably one of the worst teams in the nba. He is a great player. That game 5 performance is probably the closest one to jordan I have seen. He is a great player.

He's 22 years old and one of the best players in the game. Does he have flaws, yeah, but I think he has plenty of time to correct them. People are hilarious.

"Nowhere near" top 3 player in the league? If I wanted to win next year using your list, I would take Duncan, Nash, Kobe & Wade before LeBron. The others? I would take LeBron before them as would 99% of people. Shirk? Tracy McWeakfish? Garnett (Oh yeah, there's a winner for you)? Gilbert (one of my favorite players but he ain't no LeBron)?

Concerning LeBron, how do you define "nowhere near" top 3? #15? #20? Justed wanted to see how ridiculous you get with this.

The only thing about that Jordan-esque performance is that hopefully its not a repeat of Vince Carter's 50 point bomb he put on Philadelphia years ago in the playoffs. I remember when everyone anointed him as the greatest thing ever and we all know how that turned out.

Lebron is not overrated. He may have struggled in the Finals, but that is because he was playing a team that is so much better than his. The East is weak, but carrying a young team almost single-handedly to a conference championship at age 22 is a sign of greatness. I really like the way Lebron handled himself in this series and it's almost certain that he will come back stronger. This will not be the last time that we see King James in the Finals.

I think this is what everyone forgets. Give the guy a break. You would love him if he was on the Rockets.

I think you can make a reasonable case for the above. But I don't think Nash or Kobe would have got that Cleveland team in the finals. Healthy in form Wade, Duncan, probably. While I don't think Lebron would make the Suns better than Nash does, nor does Cleveland doesn't have the shooters/finishers to where Nash could make them as respectable as Lebron does. So I think one has a reasonable case for either. Kobe is lacking in leadership and ability to get his teammates involved compared with the other 4 and that does make him the lesser of the 5 for making a playoff run built on the guy.

I would gather to say if you subbed Lebron for Dirk on that Dallas squad they would be back to back champions.

Well strictly speaking I was left underwhelmed by his efforts in the Finals. I don't feel he did enough to really impress, as a reliable scorer, playmaker, defender, or clutch performer...

Having said that, he was great to watch against Detroit. And this is his first finals. He has very inept teammates. The Spurs are very tough. So there are many excuses for his defense.

I guess the real question for me is, is he fun to watch? I would have to say: not really. I mean, is there anyone at all who would say they would rather watch LeBron or MJ? Actually there are alot of players I'd rather watch than him... I know he is a fantastic all-round basketballer, but for some reason I just find his play not very exciting.

overrated??? maybe at this point of his career....

if we are comparing him to Kobe or MJ

Lebron still has alot of maturing to do and alot to learn...

game 5 gave us a glimpse of what kind of player he can be... can I say (MJ like)

the finals showed us he still has alot to learn...
