Actually, the weird thing is, Tracy McGrady has actually had more injury problems then Sura. McGrady has never played a full 82 game season, Sura has. McGrady has never played in 80 games, Sura has. Steve Francis' injury problems are also comparable to Sura's.
Theres a difference between "injury-prone" and "way past their prime". Sura is injury prone. Sura, along with the rest of our secondary, are not "way past their prime".
I do not doubt you on this and that's why i say TMac scares me as well but the only thing is that both TMAC and Francis are a bit younger and can also heal a bit faster in those regards. McGrady hasn't had the severity of Sura's injury and neither has Francis. McGrady was always spasms while Francis had the ear thing going on. Sura had herniated discs which led to surgery. So the injury levels are a bit on different levels in my opinion.
Don't post in Caps please. But this is just not true, look at Piatkowski and A. Griffin. Both of these guys weren't out half as long and they never got into any kind of grove or rythm
Remember when we got Maurice Taylor and he got injured before the season and was out for the entire first season? He was how old? Remember when Grant Hill got injured for Orlando and he was in his mid-twenties? This is just something that happens in Sports.
Hell, if this is one of the only hits our rotation takes...I'll be happy...If YAO and T-MAC healthy we should be OK
It seems like a long time..but only 4 weeks of regular season. This gives other players opportunities to play well...and play... And Tmac and Yao are our core now. Jimmy still here Mo is still here. And now we have Howard and...a bunch of other solid players. We are pretty deep...
True, but this whole episode kind of reminds me of the Adrian Griffin episode from last year. He'll be ready for the regular season. Uh, he'll be ready in December. Yeah, uh...he'll be ready by the All Star break. etc. etc. etc.
I don’t think the Rockets ever really viewed Adrian Griffin as a rotation player. I think his signing was more like the Ryan Bowen signing than Sura's signing. Anyway, it’s disappointing that Sura will be out for a month. I was hoping he had put his injury problems behind him.
Signing Sura and Ward wasn't exciting, but the important thing to me is that we didn't overspend. And it's not necessarily an age thing. Remember Mo Taylor got injured after we signed him too. These things just happen.
I also fear that guys like Ward are too old to do much at such a critical spot. Deke is old but we didn't have any other choice. Sura has a four year contract which is too long but if he recovers I think he can be productive for the rest of the year. JJ and Juwan are our best veterans but JJ needs help and guys like Boki aren't reliable.
No surprise to me at all as I always thought that November was being WAY too optimistic. I always thought it would be in December. Just too bad he cant be in camp to get chemistry with his teammates. Hopefully when he comes back he will be 100%. That's what we need. His energy off the bench will be helpful. But if he isnt 100% then what's the use? Better to take the time you neeed to heal up and come back when he is ready.
The "playoff" season doesn't start until after the All-Star break, anyway. So long as he is healthy and can contribute toward a playoff run then it will be OK.
that's what I was thinking. He will be coming back right about the time we get out first injury. I would rather him get the problem fixed now, work out in Decemeber, and come back in time to give the team a lift during that long Jan-Feb strech (before the playoff push in late March and April)
Hopefully this means Boki has a month to prove himself. He showed some grittiness and flashes in the playoffs maybe this is his chance.
This really suks! I just hope he comes bak in full form & not how Pik did last year.... More min for Boki though!
why do we always end up getting players who start the season injured. Frickin' adrian griffin.. how much did we pay that fool to sit the bench in his damn crushed linen?
I was concerned about Sura finding a place on this team even with a full training camp and being injury free. To me last year was a microcosm of his career--a decent creative and explosive player on a cruddy team (Atl production) but a player without the kind of discipline and consistency to have much of a role on a good team (Det production). So this is a set back, but I hope Sura proves me wrong when he returns. I am catiously optimistic (at best), but trying to be hopefull. On the plus side we will get a sense of how much Ward has left and a better evaluation of Boki so we can get a handle on whether we need to pursue other directions by the trade deadline.
