In 16 games this season for Atlanta, Barry had 5.2 points and 1.8 assists in 17 minutes per contest. "We didn't feel like there could be a lot of playing time for Jon at that shooting guard position," said Hawks general manager Billy Knight."
I like the trade, I hope it lights a fire under our 4s to get thier ass in high gear or they will be gone too..
Barry is a career 38% 3-point shooter. Lue is a career 38% 3-point shooter. I don't really see how we're gaining much shooting with this trade.
Good move. Hopefully this will insure that people will stop playing zone D on us from now on. hence more room For Yao in the low Post!
Great post. Sura and Barry are both more of scorers instead of shooters. Breaking down the defense on the dribble and getting to the hole is all the bringing. Not great outside shooting. Of course... they both push the ball and play hustle defense and can hold their own in the post. So not a season changing trade... but a good move.
Jon Barry's strongest attribute is that he's very effective knocking down 3's in the 4th quarter ... ... when playing against the Rockets ...
smeggysmeg with all due respect, what's the difference between a a outside shooter and outside scorer? I've never heard of Jon Barry being a player who beats people off the dribble.
this is a hell of a trade....lue is another player who really didnt understand his role. Lue would dribble...dribble...dribble...either come off a pick and shoot a brick or make some crazy pass that resulted in a horrible shot for a teammate or get his shot swatted. Barry is a ROLE PLAYER!....he is high energy, he hustles, he knows how to play the game, he has high bball iq....yellaman approves of this trade! This has to be the first trade where cd didnt throw in a first round pick!
Same here, Lue was only here for a couple of months and he didn't deserve all the crap he got on this board. I hope he does well in Atlanta. I guess you can't expect much more than a trade like this when you don't have much to trade. His stats aren't much better than Lues but I think he needs more playing time than he got in Atlanta to bring out his best, I hope JVG gives it to him. I know CD is trying trade MoT desperately, so this may be the next trade that goes down, I hope there is some taker out there. If a PF trade doesn't happen then JVG needs to put Spoon on IL and bring back Barrett. We are wasting a slot with 4 PFs when it could be better used to bring one of the PGs back. Not saying AB is the answer but having Spoon occupying a spot on the roster and playing like 70 minutes the whole season is a waste.
Good deal. Not sure how well Barry can play defense at his age, hopefully he won't turn out like another Pike. But I'm glad we did something.
We activated Ward and put Barrett on the IL http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/transactions Thursday, December 23, 2004 TEAM Houston Rockets Acquired guard Jon Barry from the Atlanta Hawks for guard Tyronn Lue. Wednesday, December 22, 2004 TEAM Cleveland Cavaliers Activated guard-forward Luke Jackson from the injured list; placed guard Dajuan Wagner on the injured list. Houston Rockets Activated guard Charlie Ward and forward Bostjan Nachbar from the injured list; placed forward Ryan Bowen and guard Andre Barrett on the injured list. Los Angeles Lakers Placed center Vlade Divac on the injured list with a sore back; activated forward Brian Grant from the injured list.
hey - NOW only 40% of our lineup is made up of players from last season's worse team !!!!!! seriously Lue was lost our there - all the Berrys play with heart - he and Sura out there with Tmac and Yao will be nice look - one guy diving on the floor for lose balls, the other knocking down the open jumper
Meanwhile in other NBA news, CD and his Rockets continue to rearrange the deck chairs on the HMS Rockets (aka Titanic)...
