I believe he signed a one year deal with the Hawks. Contracts and lengths are similar. This trade to me looks like the Hawks were doing Barry a favor, nothing more.
It's interesting that our two biggest needs are at the PF & PG spots yet we made a trade to acquire another guard. I guess CD got what is available right now and we certainly needed better outside shooting. But, then again, why wasn't Boki ever playing with the lack of shooting? Me thinks Boki is out of here pretty soon as Padgett, Bowen and now Barry have all jumped ahead of him on the depth chart. Correct me of I'm wrong, but didn't Jon Barry play some PG throughout his career as well? I thought I remember seeing him as such, in which case maybe this solves the shooting from the PG slot somewhat.
We trade a mediocre player for another meidocre player...how does this help us?....and isn't barry older?....
Does it really matter, JVG is notorious at turning great players into good players, good players into average players and average players into bad players. As long as JVG is in the mix we're doomed.
It's a FESTIVUS MIRACLE! Now if we could get rid of either Taylor, Ward, Weatherspoon or Howard for ..anything really...that'd be nice.
man.. and i was beginning to think CD was semi-retired... he finally got off his a$$ and did something...
Here is the first link that I was able to find regarding this trade: http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/scorecard/nbanews.asp?articleID=117352 I dont know what to think about it....atleast Barry can shoot...but then again we all thought that Pike can shoot also when we signed him... r-fan-since-81, You aren't the only one who liked Lue. His shot was off this year, so he pretty much got raked over the coals here on the BBS. But I liked him. He played hard. Ill be rooting for him in Atlanta.
so we acquired another energy player like Sura but just like Sura he really isn't that great an outside shooter
I wonder how T-mac feels about the trade? I think I remember reading somewhere how he wanted a couple of guys that he knew to go with him if he came to Houston. I believe Lue was one of them; not sure though.
So, what are the five pages of responses about? I, like codell and r-fan-since-81, was one of the few that liked Lue, but I think Berry's a better fit for the team right now, especially considering JVG's fascination with Ward. Anything to shake the team up a little bit.
Here's another news article from CBS Sportsline http://www.sportsline.com/nba/story/8030991 Hawks send Barry to Rockets for Lue Dec. 23, 2004 SportsLine.com wire reports ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Hawks traded shooting guard Jon Barry to the Houston Rockets on Thursday in exchange for point guard Tyronn Lue. Lue averaged 6 points and 2.8 assists in 23 minutes a game this season for the Rockets. Lue, 27, was on the Los Angeles Lakers championship team in 2001. After spending two seasons with the Washington Wizards, he signed with the Orlando Magic in 2003, averaging a career-high 10.5 points and 4.2 assists a game. He was traded to Houston in June. Barry, in his 13th NBA season, also has played for Milwaukee, Golden State, the Lakers, Sacramento, Detroit and Denver. "This was a move we felt we needed to make," Rockets general manager Carroll Dawson said. "We needed to get an established shooter and Jon has made a career out of making shots everywhere he has played." Barry, 33, had a hard time fitting in with the emergence of rookies Josh Smith, Josh Childress and Royal Ivey. In 16 games this season for Atlanta, Barry had 5.2 points and 1.8 assists in 17 minutes per contest. "We didn't feel like there could be a lot of playing time for Jon at that shooting guard position," said Hawks general manager Billy Knight. AP NEWS The Associated Press News Service
About time we got rid of Kim Perrot's twin. Lue sucked and Barry will bring a positive attitude to the team and hopefully fire up some of the other guys.
