Good trade. Lue was worthless. If anything, at least this gives Barret a chance to prove himself (after he comes off the IR). And this will definately help with our outside shooting.
I looked it up and the most recent I could find was that Barry signed a 1-year deal with Atlanta for $1.8 million.
Okay so we know he can shoot; or at least he could before coming here to houston (haha just kidding). I think i've heard a while ago that he can play some defense. Is that true? He must have some defensive ability or else JVG wouldn't have anything to do with this trade.
Can he play any defense, if not, I am wondering how soon you 'll see him in JVG's dog house, just as his brother did in Spurs.
Is Brent Barry really in the doghouse? I always assumed it was because Devin Brown and Beno Udrih have just done so well that Popp had to play them/develop them. I didn't necessarily think that was doghouse, just lack of PT to go around... Still, good move. Lue just was not working even as a backup PG and his defense was suspect at best. Great trade, gonna look forward to seeing a Barry boy come off the bench for us.
Yeah, especially considering how well his brother is doing in San Antonio: 19 Minutes Per Game 38% FG shooting 29% 3pt shooting 2 Rebounds per game 2 Assists per game 6 points per game
Jon Barry is a dynamic player. He's a cyclone of activity on the court that throws his body around like crazy. He has very good vision and is an excellent shooter. The downsides are his age and he can be erratic (as can pretty much all high energy guys). This is an excellent pickup for the Rockets. He can win games in 10-15 minutes a night by dramatically altering the flow of a game. You have to allow for the unpredictability though, so Van Gundy is going to have to release some of the strings for it to work.
I haven't really watched this guy play. I know Bill Worell is always bragging on the Barry Bros. and their father. He says they really know their basketball and can shoot the ball. I think I remember him being a good shooter and was looking at his stats and he is a career .434 shooter and this season he is shooting .403 in 17 minutes. I think he can help us. At least most guards won't be able to post us up anymore. He's 6'5". Hopefully he can make his open shoots; he will be getting plenty of them. And Jeff, Jason Kapono would be a good fit for this team. I think any shooter would be stupid to turn down on offer to come to the Rockets. With people doubling Yao and McGrady, there are a lot of open shots to be made.
Also, two more things. His defense is not particularly good. He's active, but he's not exactly a stopper. He's a Barry after all. Secondly, no one feeds the post better. When he was on the Pistons he was great at setting up Corliss Williamson on the block. He knew the exact moment to get him the ball in the perfect situation and teams cannot double off him because he nails every open jumper. You have to get used to him throwing up some wild 3 pointers though. He'll pull up on a fastbreak and launch a 30 footer if he "feels" it and they often go in.
Finally, someone who can feed the post. Maybe he can show some of the other guys how to feed the post
Yeah! I think this is a good trade for us to get rid of a Point gaurd(Tyronn Lue) that didnt really fit us really, but Jon Barry is going to help us alot hopefully He can can shoot the three especially wide open unlike Lue but i hope we resighn him because he will be a free agent at the end of this seasonhe one of those role players that will be good for the future One good Trade down. 5 more to go
Something is bothering me about this trade: why do Atlanta wants to trade Barry for Lue? Doesn't make a lot of sense? Otherwise, it's a good trade for us.
I thought we were trying to get the other Barry by the name of Brent but either way we got the best of this deal.
While I'm glad that CD realizes that changes need to be made, I'm not as thrilled about this one as some of you seem to be. The way I see it, the oldest, slowest team in the entire NBA just got older and slower.
(5 more trades to go was sarcastic) Its like saying Corrol Dawson get on it more than a quarter of the season is over, and if we dont shape up we might just be left saying what we say every year.MAYBE NEXT YEAR!
