Maybe he's not AS terrible as the rest of their PGs, and they like playing Josh Smith. Barry should help, I hope a defensive lapse or two doesn't send him to the dog house...
Their season is going nowhere. Perhaps a personal favorite to Les or CD of some sort? <-- crazy speculation, don't bash me for it. At least not today, let's just enjoy the good news today.
Is there still a chance we'd get AD? Maybe we are clearing way for another PG? I'm guessing Barry would take some minutes away from Bowen?
http://www.nba.com/hawks/news/Trade_PR_122304.html ATLANTA (Dec. 23, 2004) -- The Atlanta Hawks today acquired guard Tyronn Lue from the Houston Rockets in exchange for guard Jon Barry, according to Executive Vice President/General Manager Billy Knight. “Tyronn is a hard-nosed defender who can push the ball up the court,” Knight said. “(Hawks assistant coach) Larry Drew coached him with the Lakers and in Washington so he’s familiar with his abilities. He has a good attitude, and loves to play, so we’re looking forward to having him.” “At the same time, this was done because of the development of our young players – Josh Childress, Josh Smith and Royal Ivey,” Knight added. “We like the way they’re emerging and growing. We didn’t feel like there would be a lot of playing time for Jon at that shooting guard position.” A seventh-year guard from Nebraska, Lue has appeared in 21 games (3 starting assignments) this season with the Rockets, averaging 6.0 ppg, 2.8 apg and 1.9 rpg (.393 FG%, .333 3FG%, .778 FT%). He spent his first three NBA seasons with the Lakers, winning an NBA championship ring in 2001. He signed as a free agent with Washington on July 18, 2001. After two seasons with the Wizards, he signed as a free agent with the Orlando Magic on July 23, 2003. He was traded to Houston on June 29, 2004 in a seven-player deal. Originally drafted by Denver in the first round (23rd overall) of the 1998 NBA Draft, his draft rights were traded to the Lakers on draft night. Tyronn (“TIE-ron”) Jamar Lue was born May 3, 1977 in Mexico, Missouri and attended Raytown (Missouri) High School. Barry, who signed with Atlanta on September 16, 2004, played in 16 contests for the Hawks, and posted 5.2 ppg, 1.8 apg and 1.3 rpg (.403 FG%, .344 3FG%, .769 FT%). In his 13th NBA season, Barry has also played for Milwaukee, Golden State, LA Lakers, Sacramento, Detroit and Denver. Additionally, Barry played in 58 games for the Hawks during the 1996-97 campaign.
D'Antoni lived and played in Europe for so many years, so he knows what Boki can do. Why were we so tough on Boki? We treated him like an adopted kid and expect him to produce right away. Sigh again. Play some more Boki, have Barry play behind him and bring him along, that's the way to treat your high first round pick.
TLue DOB: 5/3/1977 JBarry DOB: 7/25/1969 Great. The oldest team in the league gets nearly eight years older. (average age + 0.64 years) Fortunately he will be swept away with most of the remnants of the JVG-era.
Yeah, it's called giving him a real chance to play and learn from mistakes not be taken out after one mistake and not given a chance to learn. Sucks, but he will be a good player for someone out there in the league.
So was this done as a favor to Jon Barry, to get him in a situation where he'd get more PT? ATL had Kenny Anderson, Tony Delk, and Royal Ivey to play point. What does adding Lue do for them?
Dont forget we are pursuing other old guns as well, and Deke is older than 38. We should play in the senior NBA.
When is that tour coming to town? We might as well start one. If the PGA has one we should talk to the NBA into getting one.
How did we manage to get Barry for Lue? I mean, Lue really did nothing for this team, but who would Lue? Oh well, more time for Barrett when he gets off the injured list.
The only way Barrett gets off the Injured list is if Ward goes back on it. remember He is a young player and JVG will send him to the IL the first time he does anything wrong.
Lue is at the end of a contract, which means comes off the books in the off season. Barry just signed a 2-3 year deal? I actually wanted him when he was a free agent, but decided to go to Atlanta.
