He just doesn't like Tarantino. Anyhow; I've also heard that there's a little 'epilogue' after the credits. Did anyone stay for this? Don't spoil it, but I'd like to know if there is one and if it's worth sticking around for.
The only thing I didn't like was the rediculous (I guess anime-inspired?) blood spurting. It just made it all look so fake. Other than that, fine movie. I still liked Pulp Fiction and Dogs better.
I didn't go into the movie with any concrete opinion of whether or not I would like it or not. I was influenced to go see the movie based on a review I read, and by my friends. And if it was a glorified kung fu movie, I didn't see much in the way of kung fu or anything of the sort. I saw a bunch of idiocy. Original genius? Please. The man rips off everything and hits you over the head with everything he does. StupidMoniker - Oh no man, don't you get it? The blood spurting is ART. It's part of the genius that is Quentin Tarentino. I have better things to do than be shown pointless violence, terrible dialogue, horrible characters, and an altogether amateur-ish film.
You're right about Tarantino heavily borrowing elements from other films. I wouldn't go as far as to say he rips them off. That's like saying Radiohead rips off Pink Floyd, or Creed rips off Pearl Jam, or Rage Against the Machine rips off Led Zeppelin. You can easily find the parts borrowed, but it is definitely an original creation. As for the blood spurting, unrealistic fighting, and so forth...I think the movie, like I mentioned before, was meant to be an homage to classic Far East action movies (not just kung fu...ninja, samurai, Yakuza, etc.), so of course you're gonna have the fountains of blood and limb removal. I don't understand what makes the characters so horrible. I for one really cared (care, almost forgot there was gonna be part 2) what was (is) to become of the Bride. And how could you not feel for O-Ren Iishi? .........*SPOILER*............She saw her parents got whacked by the Yakuza for f1ck's sake!
Nomar what are 10 movies or so that you like. Meaning broad base of movies, not just one type. I personally like his movies. I dont think there life changing or anything but ENtertaining. I have heard many times in interviews of his that he is dork or geek movie buff and he just likes to make movies resembling the ones he has liked to watch throughout his life. I havent seen the movie yet so i cant speak what i think about it. But if I had to guess i would say that its probably entertaining but not thought provokeing material.
Saw it last night and I thought it kicked ass in every way possible. It completely blew my mind. I loved the atmoshpere and energy of the movie. Everything is just so over the top. The fight scenes make the Matrix movies look like garbage. I haven't had so much fun watching a movie in a very long time.
Seriously. Nomar, what movies DO you like? I've never seen you plug a movie once. You seem to hate everything. Hell, you complain about movies you've never even seen and trash books you've never read. WTF, dude? Are you one of those mainstream-hating people?
Yeah, I for one can say that I enjoyed this movie because I think I knew what to expect. He's not trying to make a "Good" movie... Quentin Terentino loves the stuff one might say he "ripped off." In some way, yeah, you could say he made this movie for himself, but at the same time if you say that you're also saying he made it forever one else who enjoys Cheesy old Kung Fu, Samurai, Ninja, Anime, and Spaghetti Westerns, hence my comment in my original post, I felt like he made this movie for me. The movie was laughable, that's why I enjoyed it. You see where he got his inspirations. For instance when the guy arguing when O-Ren Ishii get's his head chopped and blood shoots into the air like a sprinkler, like yeah, no **** it's not realistic, I, along with many other people in the theater started laughing. At the same time people who don't get it, are sitting there in a confused silence thinking that we're sadists laughing at violence. I think another factor that really helped was at Dobie Theater, they played previews for Cheesy 70's Movies before the actual movie started, that were so bad and cheesy it got everyone in the theater laughing and really set the mood for what was to come. Movies included FORCE: FIVE , "The One Armed Avenger" and "Sister Assasin" or something along those lines... really bad movies... Any how, I would suggest anyone who really enjoyed Kill Bill to check out Battle Royale II (check out the trailers on the page, they'll own you). It includes Sonny Chibba (Hanzo Hattori) and the Actress who played GoGo (you know you want more of her ) . The violence shown in the trailers are similar to that of Kill Bill, just a lil' less exagerated. But I would say the movies are of a similar style.
I think it's more inspired by old samurai movies, such as Lone Wolf & Cub, where'd they'd have the hugely overdone arterial sprays (which in turn inspired anime).
Lone Wolf and Cub is freaking awesome. When he takes out those 3 enforcers/ninjas in the desert, that was badass. And that little kid will all the weapons in the cart is cool too, IIRC, there's a scene where his dad shoves the cart and the kid pops blades out from the wheels and rolls through a crowd of henchmen, cutting off quite a few feet. Yeah, even a legend like Kurosawa back in the 50's used the over spraying blood. My friend showed me the end of one of his movies, I've only seen Seven Samurai but my friend has a box set, anyways, this one movie he showed me ends with a showdown between two guys. They just stand facing eachother like an old western quick draw. Finally, a guy makes a move and the main character quickly pulls his sword and slashes him and after a few seconds a ridiculous amount of blood sprays out at high pressure for like a minute. The limb chopping and blood spurting is the style so of course it was going to be in this movie. If you guys didn't know, Nomar hates the LOTR movies as well. And, btw Nomar, the reason the whole battle is in black in white wasn't for artistic reasons, it's so that the movie could keep an R rating. I have a good feeling that scene will be in color on the DVD. How did he rip off Anime? It's not like that sequence is in there and he claims that he created japanese animation. He went and put it in because he likes anime and because again, if that scene weren't animated, it would push the movie past the R rated category. Hey, DanzelKun, the chick who played GoGo, was in the first Battle Royale, which I've seen and Sonny is in the sequel which I've heard was bad. I like BR, but I'm still confused to the purpose of it, in the plot that is. I know, the adults are fed up with kids, but how does BR help the problem? I may have missed it, so educate me if know. YO, Chicken Boy and others who saw it. SPOILER: Did you notice during the anime Oren origin sequence, that the guy who actually killed her dad had some rings on his fingers? Rings that looked similar to Bill's. . . I could be wrong though.
I thought you were ranting about Tarantino long before the movie hit theaters. Seriously, I'm wondering why you even bothered to go.
I've not seen Kill Bill, so I won't comment on it, but I also have absolutely no love for the LOTR movies, either.
This is a B-movie .. . i mean i give it a B I like some of the cinemintography [sp?] The Blue Room, The Snowy Sand room, I hope next movie they have more Copperhead. . . Dialogue and plot. . . not very original or great Am I the only guy that DOES NOT THINK UMA IS HOT? not at all Vivica was looking her best in years I like this movie and i'm not even a QT Fan Looking for something serious? this ain't the movie Rocket River sometimes u gotta take it for what it is
You are correct. From the Kill Bill volume 1 thread started by Rockhead a couple of weeks ago. 09-25-2003 08:24 PM Quote: Originally posted by Uprising I dont get it....this movie looks sooooo horrible. Quote: Originally posted ny Nomar Yep, it sure does. Too bad the majority of movie goers have been conned into liking Tarantino's obsessively crude style. Not what I'd call going into a movie with no "opinion of whether or not I would like it or not".
Damn this movie was awesome!! Great homage to Samurai, Hong Kong kungfu, Spaghetti Westerns, Anime ect.!! Looking forward to see it all again, also fantastic soundtrack!
The reason is that you don't know anything about Tarantino and his movies and the style that he directs. KB was NOT a rip off, understand? It's something that is called paying HOMAGE to the movies that you love while growing up. The movie was meant to be the way that it should and it pull it off solidly! Don;t expect this to be a serious movie since it suppose to be a fun movie that can only be love by people with an open mind. It was a good movie from beginning to end. What would you rather like? real guts and and violent? THis was pure overthe top and pretentious at time and that what make it enjoyable to watch so that people will know not to take it seriously. Seems to me you just jealous of the rave reviews that this movie is getting. By the way, you haven't told us your favorite movie. Don't be ashame now to tell us your favorite movie was Dude, where's my Car?
Yep I'm really jealous of the reviews. Why aren't my movies getting those reviews!!! Oh wait... Thanks buddy, I will no longer be "ashame now" to tell you my favorite movies. What movies do I like? Ok here goes... and I'll try to keep it as broad as possible. I.E. indlude some bad movies that I enjoyed. In no particular order, just a broad sampling: American Psycho Snatch Blade Runner Super Troopers Royal Tenenbaums Brotherhood of the Wolf Chariots of Fire Fight Club Amadeus Platoon Scent of a Woman Swingers Rob Roy The Devil's Own Gladiator Matchstick Men Godfather And I liked LOTR 1, and LOTR 2 was okay they just weren't very well done.
Oh you mean like Top Gun, Black Hawk Down, and Pirates of the Caribean which this entire board was raving about? (PotC was mediocre by the way)
