The Suns needed a go to guy.....

The Nets, they needed shock therapy.

Maybe this is good for both.

Pretty even trade in my opinion.

But one local caller made a good point. He said "If I name you the top 10 players in the league, Marbury is arguably on the list. Kidd is not."

Good point. And Marbury is 4 years younger too.

This trade makes no sense to me. Marbury may be one of the most talented guys in the league if you look only at stats, but Kidd, I think, is the better basketball player by far. If you polled NBA players I bet 99% of them would rather play with Kidd. I don't see how this helps the Suns in the West and I suspect dissension will be visiting there quite soon.

I expect Stephon's scoring to drop a bit in Phoenix. They have more scorers then NJ.

"If I name you the top 10 players in the league, Marbury is arguably on the list. Kidd is not."

You really believe that, Almu? Here are my top 10 players:
    (1) Shaq
    (2) Kobe
    (3) Duncan
    (4) Iverson
    (5) Garnett
    (6) Webber
    (7) Payton
    (8) McGrady
    (9) Kidd
    (10) Carter

I don't see Marbury anywhere on that list. When is "he is young" going to stop excusing his teams' lack of success?

    Sammy,

How do you add Payton, but don't add Malone? How do you put Kidd, but not Antoine Walker? What about Rasheed Wallace?

Can Kidd hit a big shot in the clutch? You seen him do that? I seen Marbury hit MANY. Kidd does make people around him BETTER. But because Kobe doesn't do that, should we put Kidd ahead of him?

You talk about his teams lack of success. Yet, you have McGrady on the list and he has done...? And has Garnett advanced more than Marbury? Don't think so. Yet he is on your list also.

Personally, I like Kidd more because I don't like Marbury's attitude. I see him ALL THE TIME and I can tell you with no hesitation that he is an idiot.

But I can also tell you with no hesitation that Marbury is a better player who has hit big shots in clutch situations. AND, he is only 24. Wouldn't you like to see him play when he is 28?

Almu, I've seen Kidd hit many big shots, some against the Rockets, and have also seen him make his teammates better. Malone was left off my list because he is a member of the hated Utah Jazz. And he's a few years older than Payton, who I think is (for the next season or 2) still in his prime. McGrady led his team to the playoffs this(and was spectacular in them) and his surrounding cast was no better than what Marbury has to work with. 26 wins is pathetic, especially in the East. Oh, and Tracy is 2 years younger than Stephon.

Did you know: Terry Catledge averaged 19 points and 8 rebounds for the 1989/90 Orlando Magic?

On paper, the Suns look real good right now. However, they screwed big time on this one.

Next season, we will see the career's of Van Horn, Kenyon Martin and Kerry Kittles rise substantially with Kidd's arrival. Conversely, Marion, Rogers and Penny's play will suffer when placed together with Marbury and 'me-first' attitude. This is a guy who turned down the chance to play with KG for the next decade and quite possibly form a duo of historic proportions. The guy then flees to Jersey, where he does nothing for them. Now, he takes his game to Phoenix, proclaiming "It will make my career go through the roof."

A Penny-Marbury backcourt? Talk about your internal problems.

Don't you think there is potential for major Starbury vs Penny flare-ups, fights etc. ?

The Nets got the best of this deal.

Kidd was actually showing signs of greatness last year at the end ie: finding the perfect combination of passing and scoring, and it was beautiful to watch, except when he kicked the Rocket's ass [IMG]

With Marbury you have a talented player, but unlike other star players in the league, he can't score and pass at the same time.

His assist numbers are misleading, he has to concentrate on one aspect of his game, like scoring, to be successful at it, and he's not even in the same class as Kidd when it comes to making his teammates better.

When I think of Stephon Marbury I think of Baron Davis with an offensive game. The real thing I see in both of them is the inability to take over games at both ends of the court at the same time.

Don't underestimate how much of Marion's success was due to Kidd. You could even make a case that their whole team looked better than they really were due to Kidd.
