Stackhouse is in his first year of of 21 million contract over 3 years. In 09-10 Stackouse's contract would be around 7.5 million.

Mavericks still have his rights and they can resign him with midlevel exception.

One thing I don't get with this trade, not that I care either way, but I was under the impression you could not include other players and salaries, with a sign a trade (like they will with KVH).

Why couldn't the Mavs just sign me and give me the $4 mill? :(

The biggest loser in this deal was the eastern conference. DeSagana Diop is back and this time...it's personal. He'll probably begin a ten year streak of all-star appearances next season.

I don't understand why the Mavs needed to include 2 first round picks... getting Devin Harris and Diop is good enough for a $20 million PG who wants out of NJ. This deal makes much more sense for Dallas if Kidd decides to take a pay cut and agree on an extension of 5 years - $35 million... almost 1/3 of his current salary.

    2008-09 Dallas Salaries

    Kidd - $21 million
    Nowitzki - $18 million
    Howard - $10 million
    Dampier -$9.5 million
    Terry - $9 million
    Stackhouse - $7 million

That is $75 million between 6 players...

Why not? KVH never signed his retirement papers and Mavs still own his rights. They can essentially sign him to whatever amount they want. Cuban will have to pay double, which I'm surprised he's willing to do considering he was a KVH away from getting Garnett

You're right and that's actually what I thought it was because I remember him signing the contract in July. I thought maybe I lost count and this was his last year in that 21 million dollar contract and he just signed a minimum contract extension to stay till 2010. ESPN is at it again...

I missed that. No other outlet had reported a partially guaranteed contract in his last year. That'd be around 9 million over two years. So basically the same as Hassell to buy out.

Losing the two first round picks must be a worry especially if Kidd still wants his max extension.

Question: I keep hearing that Stackhouse could be release by the nets and then re-sign with the Mavs... does anybody else know if this is likely to happen or not?? I would love for him not to be on the Mavs anymore.

Wouldn't they need to release a player first, if they already have 15 under contract?

how much are they going to sigh KVH?

It will be funny if KVH pulls off a Devean George and ask for extra couple of million dollars or something and hold up the trade. :D

LOL. KVH needs to take Deveon Goerge out for a nice dinner. Mr. George just got him a couple easy million dollars.

Dallas still loses either way. They could be trying to win titles with a younger PG named Steve Nash. But noooo, they thought he was going to be too old. They let him go to the Suns, where he wins multiple MVP awards and now they're better than Dallas. Then they trade for Kidd, who is actually OLDER than Nash. Good going Dallas!! :D

If they are doing a sign and trade though, wouldn't that take care of it. Because technically they won't ever actually have 15 on the roster.

Someone with more knowledge about the rules educate me :)

Also the Mavs or Nets were going to do a side deal to move one more player... can't remember who that was... but it was because of the roster situation.
